Why would you suggest turning it off, seems like a bit of an over reaction? If you are frustrated by the intermittent issues maybe just don't use it?

It's a webcam with an ultrasonic anemometer (which can be affected by lots of things) on a pole in the middle of the lake...that you can access from the comfort of your home or convenience of your smartphone....The webcam is almost as useful in terms of telling the wind-state as the anemometer if you know what you're looking at and is ultra reliable.

Alternatively you can fund/raise the funds for one yourself, deal with all of the Government red tape and regulation in terms of getting it on the pole in the first place and improve it for us all?

The IYC sailing committee is aware that it is reading incorrectly. From what I understand there will be some funds allocated to do so sort of maintenance to the unit.
Unsure to when or exact dates, but they are aware Pop's.
Once IIYC has the funds "allocated to Holfuy" which now has been mentioned to the committee, then they will try to orginize the appropriate people to assist in the maintenance and or service that it requires.

The Lake Illawarra Holfuy was recently upgraded to the rare and exclusive 'Luderitz Edition'. It only switches on when the wind speed exceeds 30 knots - when the serious speed sailors become active!!

Thank you so much. Super interesting. Did you have to navigate council, NSW gov etc re permission for install. Why I ask on lake Narrabeen there is a cardinal bouy which would be perfect to capture data.

Hi Heypressgo. The AWS box, solar panel & Davis anemometer is tiny. We put it on top of a long pole attached to the DAC clubhouse. It's located on DAC property so no issue with any consent. In talking to Bushfire (Glenn Morrell) regarding the Lake Illawarra holfuy, their situation was more complex being installed on a Maritime navigation pole. My recollection is that Maritime & Glenn installed the Holfuy as part of routine maritime mark maintenance. The closest Holfuy AWS to Narrabeen is at Long Reef, holfuy.com/en/weather/177%C2%A0 run by Sydney Paragliding and Hang Gliding Club.

In case it helps anyone, I have installed 4 Holfuys in the Sunshine Coast area. I initially chose the recommended Ultrasonic option for the first 2 installations (ATMOS IIRC) , ironically as I was looking for a low maintenance reliable option and have had success with ultrasonics before. I found that both of them cut out often and particularly when it rained. I eventually got a refund from the manufacturer as they are not fit for purpose (outdoor installation). I retrofitted the basic Davis rotating cup anemometer and they have been reliable for a couple of years. One of the four Davis units in operation stopped reporting and was replaced under warranty by the manufacturers, and have had no further issue since then. One of the four solar panels stopped charging on the Holfuy and I was sent a replacement for free. All in all I would highly recommend Holfuy, their service has been fantastic from start to finish.

Also I recommend the Holfuy App if you have a few gauges nearby,
if you add favourites in the right order you can see your wind at a glance.

That's awesome had no idea there was a setup like that on the Sunny Coast!
