Any tips appreciated on fitting a new Chinook Tuttle box
Hit a turtle and wrecked the box on my trusty old AHD

I've cheked out the Boardlady site

Do I set it in divinicell or would plywood do?

Also I can only get standard tuttlebox anyone know where I can get a Deep Tuttlebox

Can't see anything wrong with plywood apart from weight. There are no rules really.

(Speaking of breaking rules, that snapped sh!tbox tabou I posted about last year that I repaired 'like a boss' is still going strong and is still the Old Mans No.1 board. Those who know his sailing will know that that repair was structurally top shelf. )

Oh yeah? Where are the field studies and double blind tests? It could have been that Ian was sailing particularly carefully in fear of a substandard repair

Next time, you need a control board.

i recon ply wood would be fine , on one of mine i just cut the exact size of the box and put it straight into the high density foam that was already there , worked fine .

This is one company that supplies Tuttle boxes already in a high density foam block.

For what its worth, I think Actiomax's repair was a bit more in-depth than it needed to be. I didn't see the original damage though, so maybe it was?

I would have just done it like the boardlady does. I laminate the box in sections of divinycell, sand it flat so that it gives a nice rectangular shape, and then route out that same size in the board.

You can then place the box in the board, and use a texta to mark the top of the box where you need to cut it. Once you have trimmed the box, you can then insert it into the board with a paste, and then layer it back in with glass.

Its relatively simple and doesn't require too many accurate measurements and cutting. The paste takes up a bit of the slack between the hole and the box.

Yes thanx FormulaNova I agree,
I've only wrecked the actual box while Actionmax did major damage to the surrounding area.

I'll try Simon100 's way first and see how that goes

Since when did anybody need field studies and double blind tests to prove anything on Seabreeze, this is a logic free zone...

My control was the sailor, who still thinks he's sailing a Bombora Astro Toy, and sails accordingly (tries to sheet in and sail through the waves, not around). The proposal that an Old Windsurfer™ could change his style is just ridiculous! And therefore was excluded as a potential variable.

Try contacting Steve Stratfold (08 9314 6566). He recently installed a new Tuttle Box for me and did an outstanding job. I know he's in the wrong state for you, but he might be forthcoming with good advice.

Don't know why you got red-thumbed for that one? Maybe someone really likes Bombora Astro Toys?

No, you are right, field studies and double blind tests are needed for anything obvious, but outlandish 'facts' are accepted on face value.

Oh, I see you noticed the logic free zone bit... as you were.

Myself, I can only prove bad repair techniques. My first repair was a new nose for my Mistral Flow. It seems that carbon over styrofoam works fine, but doesn't last long when impacted by a mast. Who would have thought divinycell and glass makes a difference?
