Hi crew! Ive a few Qs about fins. Me 105kg,sails 8m ,board 70cm wide. Looking for G10 PB fins 44- 50cm. Pointer style im guessing. Currently use freeride but find it flexes n walks around when im fully powered.Looking for more drive. I like the look of C3 venom plan shape.
1.For the same length does a pointer fin have more grunt than a freeride fin?
2.Whats a good brand fin in G10 (i regularly find sandbanks, hehe)
3. Can Tuttle be converted to PB?

hi mate i have converted tuttle to pb and it works good . used a large cut of saw ,grinding on the sides be very sure of the angles ,also it will come up a bit short on the ends and need some fill to make it fit the box .watch how much heat you generate .i also wrapped some carbon over it to bind all the glass ends together.
which board are you riding
i find the black projects from andy to be a tough fin you can order them in pb
the best fin i own is the 50 that came with my jp super sport ,but not as tough as black projects fin

I am using them in my slalom boards in the rough water of Port Phillip Bay. Nice and grunty with good grip in the rough and still very fast...a 30cm has done 42knots at Sandy Point. I think 48cm may be the biggest in the range but I tend to use 1 size down than a Slalom fin anyway. In fact in my 73 wide slalom board I use a 38 and find it as grunty as my C3 42. The C3 is a Venom, I like the fin, feels a bit more slippery than the Powermax and I use it sometimes when the water is flatter because of this feel, however I have not seen any differences on the GPS between them. The Powermax will take a heavier back foot and easier to go upwind on.
There are lots of great fins out there but having used these in various sizes I can recommend them highly. You can't go wrong with a Fin that Slowy has designed in my opinion.

i weigh about what you weigh ..
have used an 8.5 on a JP SLW92 with a 53 cm Curtis fin ...
have used an 8.5 on an AHD FF 165/80 cm wide with a Select Freeride 48 cm fin
as stated earlier ... as the width goes down, it seems we use just a slightly shorter fin
now if one wants a fin with a bite - guess slalom is the way to go
these come in tuttle and deep tuttle - so why convert to PB
unless you are worried about the sandbars ??
try a Wolfgang Lessacher weed fin - now sold by Unifiber ??
personally NOT a fan of weed fins
BUT am a fan of PB - when I hit a rock - NO damage to fin box or board !!
lost and cracked a few fins tho

Tribal have a chart to help decide what fins go with volume/width and sail size.

We use WeedSpeed here mostly (because they are fast) and i also have PowerMax on 78 wide and other guys have Slalom on Light Wind set up (but he is light). We must have about 20 in our collection!

All in all they are great fast up & down wind shed weed and heavy weed at speed and priced real nice.

Joe windsurf, tuttle to PB conversion is bcoz my BOARD is Pb, but most used fins in the style n sizes im after are tuttle.

Mr Love, ive checked Tribal site. Great looking fins. The table given- 70cm is only 110litre volume. My board 2011 Xcite ride 130litre at 70cm. 8m sail. 44cm standard freeride fin. Whats your suggestion?

48 with 8 meter and 44 for 6.5 fanging weather .there ant a lot of v in the back of excites and 2 flats on the side ,they do tend to follow the ripple pattern on the water a bit. so try to fly the board more .i will try to post pictures.i use a 52 on my excite even when i have 7.5 on

the 50 looks like my super sport just different graphics its a good fin, is the second one a 44 i think its a 48 it is the same as my 52 that came with the board and is also a good fin .

Mate you can bring your long board for a sail at Sandstone Point tomorrow and check out all my Tectonics fins.
Unfortunately they're all tuttle, otherwise you could try any.
I've just got more new sizes and a prototype for light wind on my new 150ltr slalom.
Also have a couple of their Weed Demons in the two biggest sizes.
Best fins in my books. All I'll use. Denis is great to deal with. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Will make your fins to order with whatever box. Happy to let anyone try them.

44 would work for a 70 wide with your weight I reckon. Bit big for me.

Black Project Type R or Hammer. Curvy freeride fins are a bit draggy.

Hey Imax1, ive already contacted em. Lock n load.

I use Tribal Slalom MK1s and they are excellent. Simon at Boardcrazy stocks them. They come in power and tuttle box. The 44 cm would work well but like Mr Love I would use a slightly smaller fin. I'm 86kgs and with an 8m sail, I use a 38cm on my 68cm wide (112litres) board and a 40cm on my 82 cm wide (137litres) board. Anything from 40 to 44 would work well with your 70 wide carve and 8m sail. If you want more lift and if you have a heavy back leg, go for the 42 or 44.
