All my freeride boards have the rear straps set in the middle of the fore-aft range. What will be the effect of moving them to the rear position? On one in particular, I want to move the rears aft to get my heel closer to the rail. What other effects can I expect?

You will probably notice more speed better leverage& a much lively responsive board.you have just unlocked your boards full potential.

^^^ I agree although depending on the board it can make it very difficult to get into the straps. I like to keep my straps back and out but have had a couple of boards where this just didn't work as my heels kept hitting the water so I had to move them back in... then shortly afterwards sold the boards.

you end up with a more direct feel with the fin, and you move further back on the board so you lose control of the front end.

I can't remember where I read it, coulda been a link from here.....
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Gps/Technique-Tips/?SearchTerms=footstrap

but front strap as far back as possible then to adjust the back strap ........
measure the distance from your elbow to the end of your middle finger
and this will be the centre distance betweem back n front straps

May sound like a load of crap and I don't know if it's fast but it sure is fkn comfortable
Applies to wave/freeride and slalom boards

So according to the other thread and Ducati the back strap is best as far forward as possible.

Not necessarily, my arm measurment (see above) is 49cm which puts da back strap in the middle position on most of my boards
I gather if you're a lanky basket you'd have longer arms thus a wider distance between straps

there's one for the girls,

you can tell the size of a man's uhum, by the width of his footstraps.

In general,
Straps Back = Nose up and more front foot pressure
Straps Fwd = Nose down and less front foot pressure
But fin type, fin size, mast base position, boom height, sail down haul etc also change board trim.

Tried it out today. Not bad, got a lot more pressure coming off the fin. Made my leg hurt after a while. Faster though.
