hi guys ,

im looking at investing in a new mast or 2. I'm currently using a NP x35 430 with 2016 Ryde 6.5 and 7.5 (sets like s##t on the 430 cant get enough down haul). the x35 is starting to look tired and I want to avoid a mast break and long swim if I can, so it's time to invest. being relatively to the sport I'm still learning about gear etc, so I have a few questions

are there any advantages aside from weight when you go to higher carbon content masts ?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between NP 2015 FX100 and the 2016 FLX100 ?

all I can see is different paint job, 2016 is .05kg heavier and price. Is there anything to justify the extra $$ aside from being able to say I have the latest model ?

and finally carbon booms , are they worth the extra $ ? And is there any brands that are over rated, over priced Or poor quality?

Hi Beerinmind,

I use NP FX100 RDM 430 on 5.5 & 6.5 and NP FX100 SDM 460 on my 7.5.

Im real happy with the RDM , probably because i prefer the 5.5 & 6.5 size but have had good enough experience with the 7.5 on my RB in light winds.

I am not aware of any differences between FX & FLX masts.

NP have out sourced masts for 2017 tho.

I have a carbon enigma boom but have not used it enough to form an opinion.

Cheers Dave

Hi Beerinmind,

No change to the NP masts, I set the 7.5 Ryde on an old FX1000 works well nice and light and heaps of range.

According to the unifibre site, NP seems to have the most consistent bend curves year in year out. I don't see why they'd change now.
