Ok folks, have you ever seen a board like this?

I bought it a few years ago at a Garage Sail at Yeppoon. I have never ridden it, but looks like some has once tried because there are heel impressions either side of the mast track like some has tried to uphaul a sail. Otherwise it's in as new condition. In case your wondering, yes the stickers have been put on the blank and glassed over.

The dimensions are:
Lenght: 278cm
Width: 55cm
Thickness: 11cm
Weight: 9kg
Volume: ??? I guess less than 100L
Fin Box: Standard A-box
Shaper: Hohensee

Does anyone know if this was a special made promotional board?
The deck is quite soft so I don't think it was made to be used seriously.

Hypothetically if I was to ride it, what sort of board is it?
Slalom I guess, if slalom what size sails could it carry?

Would it have more value as a conversation piece over so-one's bar or in a windsurfing shop window????

Hey knot board, its got a Wind FX logo on it, give the infamous greenleader a post and i betcha he will know about it.
Looks to be an old style gunny wave board.

I recomend you sell it in your next garage sail, it can then live in someone elses backyard for another 15yrs without seeing water.

hi knotley,
good old laurie hohensee moved to yeppoon area a number of years ago.
he is a legendary surfboard shaper and well respected in surfing circles.
he did ask some advice a few years ago about making a promo board for the "local" and got some components from me as i remember and stickers.

he is a great personality and nice guy.
however, building a windsurfer using a mal blank or similar from burfords and a classic retro surf shaper will always turn out a board that looks a bit mal-ish dudes look at that tail rocker!
a standard surf polyester layup will always dent easily under thefeet and that beauty should go

Yes it's certainly isn't a slalom board!
But I disagree about the pool room, it may last a few years as a light wind wave board (sub planning 10-15 knts) for somebody around 80Kg-90Kg. Once on a wave that tailrocker isn't a problem, and if it's not jumped it should stay in one piece.
It's just a bit heavy by modern standards, but as a board you only use once in a while, worth a try.

You have just confirmed what I thought at that time. There certainly is something a bit unique about this board

Interestingly this board does not have a 'stringer', my understanding is that all surfboards and I guess custom sail-boards have a wooden center line running the length of the board. Without a stringer wouldn't the strength of this board be compromised?

I guess that just re-inforces what decrepit says

probably not a lot, stringers are highly overated.
Midget Farrelly started leaving stringers out in the mid 60s, I've done my best to stay clear of them since, with no problems.
Modern surfboards are so thin, they may need them, but with 100mm thickness it's probably OK. The biggest danger (if Greeny is right and it only has a traditional mal glass job) is delamination on the deck due to foot pressure dents.
