U.S. Coast Guard members in Key West await an ambulance for the third windsurfer who left Cuba last week for Florida. The unidentified man had spent four days at sea before being rescued. (Mike Hentz / Associated Press)

that is insane but gutsy. i guess desperation will drive anybody to anything. you set a goal and you believe enough you just may see it through. these people have amazing stories and are (in a way) quite inspirational. ambition eh it could take you anywhere if you have enough of it. feel sorry for the other two though. probably go through a rough time when the return to their homeland.

Luckily he didn't choose to kite board across. That leads to instant deportation

Sounds like the Cuban Marathon event has been more successful than the Port Philip downwinder, it started!!!!!

Serious though, was it a side-on, or downwinder? Going upwind all the way sounds impossible.

I was at Varadero once, they don't let the sails out anymore at the resorts since the previous crossing.

I don't think so! Not many of us None of us are keen to spend half our time awake parked at traffic lights sucking in smog like you mainlanders while there is some perfectly good wind calling nearby!!
