Sorry if it's already been posted. Would be nice to see similar events/etc. in Australia. Seems to draw a crowd!

I may of been missing something. To me it look like a crowd turned out to watch some yaucht sailing, which looked pretty cool. Then guy crib cut a video of that, and various gopro mount shots of him sailing, on the beach, and shots of his feet, and then a few shots of him hooning through the race course whilst the boats doing their own thing or waiting for a race to start ??????

Could be mistaken but that is the first video I've ever seen of Guy Cribb and the first thing that came to mind was "what a prat".

Seems to be a great way to give windsurfing a higher profile at a big event with lots of spectators.

I wonder how windsurfers would do vs an AC45. I reckon especially in lightwinds the AC45 would torch anything, not sure about the windier days thou.

Yeah you're right it was basically just that- promoting windsurfing to the sailing crowd. But we also held drag races each day against the X40s, so had some official racing between us which went down very well with the Extreme Sailing Series organisers/ spectators.

This is what the ESS put online-

As for the 'what a prat comment' love it, makes a change from some of the stuff I get called from you Aussies. G

I apologise for my immature and unwarranted comment above and agree with Al planet that it was a great platform to expose a crowd to windsurfing.

[I would delete it but it is not allowing me to do so?????]

All I can say is the Extreme Sailing Series with the X40's is a brilliant concept that takes the "Boring " concept out of sailing and the match racing with Cribby on a windsurfer is a great showcase for our sport. Should be more of it. I like Cribby's concept of changing the course so there is more opportunity for both craft to cross each others path with the chance of carnage. Brave man Mr. Cribb

Great stuff! My reaction, though, was to ask: what are all those people doing sitting on the beach, just watching? It's windy, they should be out on the water!

If anything positive was to come out of all this would be if Cribby managed to get the phone number of the chick hosting it.

And I'm sure you thought the same thing when you first saw a video of that Naish fella.

The speed factor was the thing that first attracted me to this sport decades ago. Maybe I'm shallow or have a short attention span, but the old style America's Cup, when they didn't wear helmets, was kind of, er, somnulent. It was only ever worth watching if it got over 15 kts.
These Extreme 40's, 49ers, AC45's are basically doing in front of crowds what we've been doing for years pretty much out of the public eye, powering up and cranking. Mr Cribb's appearance ain't a bad reminder of what the punters on the sidelines can get into for a few thousand bucks (and some time on the water) compared to hundreds of thousands. And mixing it with the big boys I think gives us a little more credibility as a real sailing discipline.
Still can't work out how one guy (no pun intended) needs, what, 8 sq. metres?, while 4 guys need 100+.

they even have a car in Gran Turismo that's, hypothetically, the fastest race car ever/unlimited.

Have taken a Red Bull when I've had a cold coming on four times now. Runny nose, really tired, mild fever etc. etc.

Stopped four times in a row now.
