For what they are, they aren't all that cheap. Surfboard bags are around the same size.

I'm seldom one to pimp Pryde products as i've broken a large amount of Pryde gear and generally imo it's fairly ordinary, however, their heavy duty double padded board bags are the business. I don't think they are that cheap but if you are going to be flying with boards (have done, never had a prob even with suspect packing :P) or want genuinely good protection it's not something to skimp on. Dakine make good ones too.

On the (-)
Board got excessively hot when outside of car in direct sunlight
Over shoulder handle not supplied with bag (could have been a shop issue)


We had a range of boards and bags on the roof, the flying objects was by far the hottest. Swapped boards and bags over the course of the week and boards stored within the FO bag were significantly hotter to the touch than boards in other bag

Make sure you get one with a plastic slider. The numerous flying objects bags I have seem to have a mix of metal and plastic sliders. Of course the metal one is stuck solid the others are still good. I have a Gunsails bag that has a metal slider it's now a corroded mess, ironically it's the best bag in terms of padding. My Dakine bag is still going strong. And finally my Barracouta custom designed double board bag circa 1992 is still going strong with a plastic slider and is a veteran of 20+ o/seas trips and a high speed excursion off the roof of a car.

Flying objects do a version with reflective metallic coating that stays a lot cooler, but it is only 5mm foam, while their normal bag is 10mm foam.

a "board bag" is not a "travel cover/bag"

10mm foam and plastic zips with chunky teeth AND a plastic slider is on the F.O travel cover with 10mm foam.
So the extra $30 or $40 is getting you more than just thicker foam.

OTOH, buy cheap, be careful not to bash it around and do the zips with vinegar then fresh water once a year - no dramas.

FWIW....Perhaps surfboard travel bags may fit for some types of Windsurfers...IMHO you can't go past the "Ocean and Earth" Coffins...fits 3-4 surfboards with fins removed depending on what type you purchase. I took a triple coffin over to Java, had it thrown around by porters, dropped off the roof of the boat and no damage. I take it everywhere as its just so damn strong. I just pack the individual boards inside Boardsocks to stop wax etc from getting onto underside of boards (tho this wont obviously be an issue with windsurfers).

Is The FO bag the red and silver bag or the green one?

I've been using Mystic ones as they were the only ones the local shop supplied.I am careful with my boards and they have been good although the oldest ( 3 seasons) is starting to 'delaminate" and the zip is starting to pop open at times halfway along.I spray the zips with silicone spray occasionally. Having said that they have spent a lot of time on the roof in the sun as in summer my car is kept packed most of the time and I drive around / shop etc with the boards on top.Not as stupid as it sounds as I live 1hr from water so usually I go down for a full day and do other 'chores' on the day I sail.
They are silver with a black design..

+1 for the Ocean & Earth bags. good quality.
Grabbed one online (www.surftrolley.com). Fairly standard price but the site has promos all the time, so worked out a bit cheaper.

I wouldnt go for anything too budget though. zippers are a pain when they go.

I'd be happy to pay a premium for a good quality bag rather than something that falls apart or zippers corrode in a few seasons. Unfortunately they seem to be few and far between.

I have one which I bought in Maui (dakine I think) . It has chunky plastic zippers and it made out it the stuff they make soft suitcases of, supper tough. Its around 6 years old and still looks new. Unlike some of my other bags which still look and are new, but zipper is clagged,

I've got a Dakine model and swear by it. No sign of zip corrosion or any other issue. Never gets a wash either!
Think it cost around $90 say two years ago. Money well spent even if it was a Xmas gift I organised for the Mrs to buy for me!

And ... for my other board, I got the Mrs to sew together two old mattress protectors like a sleeping bag and that does the job for travelling in the car. Just don't make them too tight as hard to get on and off.
