Just thought someone had to put it out there, another BBQ meeting for your dollars worth or a fundraising event for who?
Is it just going to die or can it be the event it used to be?
Who cares?

Huey didn't quite come to the party. The course was open on 3 days of the 6 day competition. On the days when the course was open, perhaps it could have been opened earlier.

The foilers sailed every day but the slappers did a fair bit of waiting around. But that's par for the course in our sport.

Good organisation and great volunteers.

A rescue boat owned by the club, put to go use by the writer.

A couple of sausage sizzles and a prize giving?

A tee shirt.

No VMR boat and crew.

More expensive than last year and about double what it was 4 years ago.

I like the current format that includes foils and focuses on 500m & NM. I'd prefer a 30min discipline in lieu of 1 hour, given the usually fickle wind.

I enjoy catching up with interstate and local sailors and really enjoy the sausage sizzles.

Giving the pub forewarning of a pub meal night will allow them to put on extra staff and reduce waiting time. Also if you give the local cafe forewarning of the event, he might increase his opening hours and days.

I agree we don't need the VMR but would like the entry fee to reflect this.

I can cook, free entry next year and I will sort the catering ...

Thats gotta be worth free accomadation,Have you got a boat too (donate with driver and feul, free ).
With all the extra help, that should get entry fees down so we can see 80 competitors instead of 40 Bro.
Id even come accross the way with some cuzzies and play.

My first trip (1100KM) to Burrum and Huey just didnt play ball. ( By my count we got about 2 hrs of usable wind for the week. Unless you were fit enough to do 100 meter runs across the channel! TK you are a machine!) It was a shame and made for a long week. Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time to make it as good as it was despite the conditions. It was a well run event with great communication between the organisers and competitors and the event had a great vibe allround. But a couple of things that I feel could improve the event would be.......
- The event cost is as cheap as chips! Make it more expensive and get another boat if this is at all possible. I felt one boat for 40 competitors was a bit skinny. I know it's enclosed waters but when I when I broke a boom head I was 2 KM from the boat and 2KM from home and was no chance of getting attention.
- Some markers on the North side of the channel to give a rough indication of a no go area. As a newby it was a nightmare to navigate at times (sorry, Im not used to sailing in tight spaces ). Even people who had sailed there, on both fin and foil, many times were running aground.
- For most of the week Harvey Bay airport was showing wind strength of 8-18 kts but it wasn't getting in to Burrum (the angle didnt seem suitable?). Is it possible to relocate to Harvey Bay for a day? I appreciate that this may be untenable due to having to relocate the boat and other resources.
Anyway, thanks again to all that contributed to the event. It was great to meet so many passionate sailors.
