Having moved South for work I am interested to know where local Bunbury sailors head out to get their fix of wind and waves over the windy months ?
Have noticed some slalom sailing taking place at the Australind boat ramp on the Leschenault inlet - where else ??
Cheers

Well having moved for work 12 months ago also, most crew sail the estuary from the BP servo as you mentioned.
I've been sailing at the cut aka turkey point, but never seen anyone else there. Good in the winter storms but very gusty.

I was massively disappointed with the sea breezes in bunbury last summer. Its certainly not a windy spot. I hope you have big gear.
The better options is to travel if you can. Mandurah, busselton or Margs. That's where most crew go to sail.

Hi Dave, I'm one of the Australind sailors. Agree with Bertie, Bunbury misses out on a lot of the summer sea breezes, but when the wind blows it is still a good spot. I'm more into flat water speed sailing these days (got too scared of sharks), but have sailed at the cut previously. I reckon Binningup is the best nearby spot if you want waves, I've had some really fun sesh's there in the past. Nowadays I prefer to head up to Liptons or Fangys at Mandurah if I have time.

Thanks for the heads up fellas - I have both wave and slalom gear and the sizes required for most conditions so i guess that gives me some options.
Looking forward to some good sailing over summer and always up for a road trip if anyone is looking for an excuse to get away.
See you on the water

regards
Dave

Hi Dave, Im based in Busso and have found the winter storms pretty good in Bunno at the BP or further up the estuary when lots of Nthly in the mix. There are a few in Busso that sail in the bay on the summer sea breeze but it is an off shore session. We can go out on our SLW RB or slalom kit with runs to Dunno if thats your cuppa. No waves in the bay except with big Nthly storms which are mainly in winter and roll & break where the sand bars are shallowest (+2m deep i guess). Plenty of ramps but not that much riding. Waves in MR and that side of the cape.
Feel free to call if you are heading this way 0413017871. Join WhatsApp chats - Wind in Australind. Byport.com.au
Are you GPSing?
Cheers Dave

Thanks for the info BSN101 - I'm gathering you are a Dave too - so hey Dave !

I would love to do some long BSN to Duns runs at some stage with you and the offshore crew - probably some good training to be had for the Ocean classic back foot busting long legs ! I will put your number in my phone and get in touch if im thinking of heading out as that wind starts to blow.
Let me know if you are going too as I am keen as to get wet.

Cheers

2 x DWs, now I'm going to get confused. Bunno Dave, watch out that Busso Dave doesn't try and and lure you into the Busso GPS team. They're an unruly mob with a penchant for dubious beverages!

Yeah Stretchy man..... dubious beverages my butt!! only the finest 101's to fuel our team for a big session on the water
Hey Dave W (the bunbury one) ... this is going to get real confusing really quickly! Busso Dave is also Dave W!
Grab yourself a Canmore or watch, and join the crew. The Busso crew (One More Knot) are always looking for some new team members and we are forever invading the lands of the Mandurah Mob and Bunbury boys! And we are by far the coolest team on GPSTC.
But we never lose perspective, Mr Stretch is still king of Australind and we show respect when we arrive!
Look forward to meeting you soon and a spin out on the boards!!!!
Cheers

Very big +1 on that Bunno Dave. Stay away from that Busso mob or you will end up working in a pillow factory, eating marshmallows while you commute to work in your Toyota Crown.

Loving the sense of humour fellas and feeling welcome already and haven't even met any of you yet!

Pretty keen to get back on the water and have 2 weeks free with school holidays almost upon us. Yep im a teacher so have plenty of holidays ---LOL !

Does anyone have any powerbox fins ? Im looking for one to put in my Tabou 125l Rocket .....

BTW - love wild turkey oh and Jack Daniels too and just so you know and dont expect me to rock up in a large VW Van with boards for everyone.... the boards pictured in my avatar are mine and my 3 mates all together. Currently only have 2 boards myself - one 92L JP Quad for waves and the other is my Tabou 125L.
Sorry to disappoint!

My dad used to drive a Toyota crown,

It's all becoming much clearer to me now, that super SOFT ride of the Crown explains a lot about the BSN mob
DaveW, I have a few Powerbox fins you can borrow when you are up here.
