I somehow snapped the tip of a batten in the cam of a NP 9.4 V8 sail . Probably bagging it out too much for low wind.
Anyhow , the last couple cm is inside the solid plastic pocket that is stitched to the sail.
The new system works great and is soooo much simpler than the older strings , spit an wire system , but now I'm stuck.
Has this happened to anyone and how did u get it out ?
I'm thinking of slicing a slit in the batten pocket and pulling it out with needle nose pliers , but that makes me feel sick
Or drilling a small hole in the end of the plastic pocket end and pushing it outwards with thin wire. Then having to somehow work that tiny piece all the way along a very long batten pocket . ???????

I did the slit in the batten pocket, long nose pliers and restitch (by a sail repairer). It worked a treat.

If u do slit it

Batten back in
Some plastic sheeting cut and inserted under slit
Superglue
More plastic sheet
Clamp.

In the absence of oxygen (how it supposed to work?) superglue sticks our sail materials quite well. For a small are that is not loaded up it can save some $$$

Don't do!!!! The V8 plastic bucket is riveted to the sail, just drill it out , remove the offending bit and bolt the plastic bucket back on.

Not on my sail 2017 model . The floppy cam is bolted on , but the plastic batten end pocket is stitched on to the end of the batten pocket , ( must be one hell of a butch needle and thread ).
Under super close inspection it may have tiny pre drilled zig zag holes and mabee stitched by hand ???
Also under the same super close inspection I have noticed slight splitting of the pocket on one side from the broken batten edge , inside the luff pocket , ( just where I would do the surgery ) .
I was interstate and the wind was blowing all week and I couldn't stop. And it was still working fine and on a fresh water alpine lake................( suppose u wouldn't have a salt water alpine lake )

Years ago I was advised to pull out the battens on any new sail and either electrical tape or heat shrink them to avoid them slicing the fabric if they break. Good advice that saved many an '80's wave sale for me. May have helped get the broken end out of the pocket. Too late for you in this case but maybe next time?
