Can any one tell me if Bowen is windy during winter (say August). I got the impression somewhere that it gets southeasters pretty consistently at that time, but I haven't found any info to back that up so far.

I rode a bicycle up that section of coast twice in winter, and the SE winds were very consistent along that area generally.

From memory it was 15-20 knot SE 5 days out of 7 along that general area. When you ride a bike 120km every day wind speed and direction are something you become very aware of.

I did hear a story that Bowen used to be called "Blowen", but the letter L got blown away by the winds.

Look at these, you can select Mackay, August and 3pm for example. Looks pretty promising for Mackay at least.

I sail down there often and is well worth the 2 hour drive down for a few days.April through to september can be very good check the hamilton island bom site for wind readings.A bunch of us sail there and thebest winds are early in the day, l try to be on the water by 7.30 or 8 as wind usually eases around 11 for a few hours then turns slightly to the north east in the arvowhich makes kings beach good for a play in the waves. For the mornings front beach is the go.If you need any more info just pm me and l can give you a call.
