I have an "Arrows" carbon boon that needs a new front end.
I wouldn't mind butchering my old aluminium boom and us the front end, but the angle seems different.

Anyone does these sort of repairs in Perth?

obelix, what is wrong with it? Something broken in the plastic, or the carbon?

I have a similar old Arrows boom (carbon 225-275) with a broken arm, so let me know if you need any plastic parts.

Sounds similar. This is 170-220cm.
The moving bit is made from soft plastic, and the rope eats into it, so it's a difficult to slide the rope through
Actually, just that moving bit is required. Is that what you call the "arm" ?

See pics. The rope was thicker, and I just put the new one.
I bought it recently S/H, and haven't paid enough attention.
It was a nightmare to fit onto the mast. Took me full 20 minutes.

Then it released in the water.

That rope looks like it's from bunnings -- if so it's not the right stuff to use. It's also possible that the rope isn't threaded correctly on the clamp.

I've got some spare rope that's the right stuff if you want some, and can help you thread it the right way...

I only put that in recently.
I have another rope as I bouth from Whitfords Sailing shop (Leederville). I can show you on Saturday/Sunday.
All the damage was done before I got the boom. I only used it once and it went pearshape. The soft plastic was "eaten" in a good 10mm on both sides, so I need a new part for sure.

The rope sinks into the wedge created by the rope eating into the plastic, gets stuck, and becomes to hard to pull out and tighten up.
I can show it next weekend.

A pity though, everything else looks solid.

Don't think it will work, as the rope gets wedged in front of the rope lock. The lock doesn't release the rope, but the tension is low, as the angle is reduced by 10mm of damage on each side.

I'm currently organising the boom front end with James, as it's the same brand and the boom so it should fit easily. I'll see if I can replace the lever only.
Hopefuly that would be an easy fix.

Before I forget, the lever has a metal cleat, just that the plastic in front of the cleat is damaged and the rope sinks into the wedge. Also the other, non-cleat end is similarly damaged.

If James' part wouldn't work , I'll see how to fit an alternative bit so I appreciate your offer.
I'll also (likely) see Nebbian this weekend down at Pinnaroo's and see what he thinks.
