Hi Guys,

I have a 86L Goya One. Since it recently feels heavier than before, I measured the weight of the board and found it 7.2Kg without fins. The board's spec says 6.2kg. It has no damage and there's no sign of water getting in. Is it normal that the actual weight is as much as 1.0Kg heavier than the spec, or should I be worrying about this?

Thanks!

Zack...the published weight is without straps.....if your straps were wet when you weighed it they add a lot of weight.

From memory, straps are 400-600g dry.

However you think it feels heavier lately? If you use the board a lot, you can easily feel just few hundred grams as its normally getting in around the back end and the balance change is easily detected - so u may just be correct.
Remove straps and fins, stick it in the sun and see what comes out.... from where. I bet u get some drips from a strap insert somewhere

I removed the foot straps and weighed it again. I left it under the sun for a few hours today, so it's completely dry and I don't see any water dripping from any holes. It's now 6.7Kg. I'm feeling a bit better now though it's still 500g heavier than the spec...

The boards weights are stated at -/+ 6% tolerance.

It's funny to look at stated sail weights on the website (especially for slalom sails) and then weigh a brand new sail out of bag; you then wonder what drugs they are on. Often the same with boards.

Boards are always heavier after a session than before.

Had the same exact issue with my starboard kode wave.

I found over 5 leaks, mast track, nose, tail, 2 strap inserts by leave it on the sun for a long time, vent screw off of course.

Boards are weighed naked or complete.

Straps are 150g x 3 = 0.5kg, fins bday vary around that much too. So usually equipped you're around 1kg+.

To me 8kg is rather heavy, 7kg good and 6 fantastic!

When they are wet straps and pads soak in water, you can weigh the difference, something I have yet to do!

^^^ 7 is durable if done right, 8 feels heavy and 6 is ridiculous and won't last

8 may 'feel' heavy, but I defy anyone to measure the difference in speed objectively.

Yes. Not fun, but on a board you are not running.

OTOH, my 5mm winter booties would weight about a Kilo when wet!

I concede that a kilo on a wave board would probably be more noticeable in manoeuvres.
