I've got an old (2006) 93 litre Starboard S-Type. Seems a great board, only used it a dozen or so times for flat water on 15-25 knot days, but it fair hammers and gybes great. But I'm now thinking of up-grading to a slightly more versatile board of a simular volume, and a late model 95 litre Tabou Rocket has caught my eye. I believe they have a good blend of speed and comfort (both good traits of the old S-Type) but with the added bonus of being more at home on the open sea / bay?


Does anyone have any direct comparisons between the two? Or is the Rocket liable to fill the flatwater speed and comfort criteria, as well as be sweet on the open sea jumping and blasting over waves?

I've got an older rocket ( 95ltre 2008) and wasn't that impressed with its flatwater speed but Daffy got it up to 34+kts..Also the fin I use isn't spectacular.

Interesting Sue. Wonder how much they have changed from 2008 to 2014?

The 95 has the same shape from 09 to 15. 08 was different.

I see they're the same width and length, so different rocker, concaves? Less free-ride, more wave orientated?

You could allways look at its current replacement, a Futura 93. It pretty good in rough water and not slow.

Yeah, I thought about the Futura (as I had the 111 and really liked it) though I'm leaning more towards a comfy freeride board more than a sporty freerace model- though I like the idea of tuttle box with my existing fins...

Anyway, I still want to ocean blast and jump a few waves from time to time, and it seems the Rockets are quite at home with that sort of work.

What did they change? I have the 2008..
