Haha yes and if you want to sell used gear, you'll only get a few hundred for what you bought for 2-3 thousand...

For part 2 you should grab a calculator and add up the retail cost. Might get closer to the non fiction version

My local boys and I are wondering when you placed video cameras in our homes. This hits way too close.

And, we love the reasons for purchasing new gear: " the bag is all wrinkled now so I have to get a new sail"

Well done and props to the wife for tolerating your passion. She's a gem.

The bag is dirty and you can't wash the bags, so I need a new sail

Gotta remember that one...

Something I heard in the cycling world a long time ago - the ideal number of X to own is an indeterminate number. ie adding one more is indistinguishable from before. A friend also offered some helpful hints - make sure all your boards and sail bags have the same color scheme. Helps camouflage newcomers. Of course, these only apply if you adhere to the maxim: forgiveness is easier than asking for permission.

If you prefer the permission route, my niece's husband did a nice one. She told him she was going on a "girls' cruise" with some friends. He said it was fine but asked her what it might cost. "$x," she said. He said, "that's funny, the new bike I'm looking at costs $x." Game, set, match.

I don't see a problem, it can be solved by trading in just 1 thing

You guys are hilarious! Just buy the gear you want. You know your missus is going to leave you eventually anyway.

Hah Shifu is correct. Alternatively, dont have a wife in the first place and go sailing more often with all that new gear. :P

I had a motorbike, did trackdays & touring abroad etc, great fun. A work colleague wanted one, used to have bikes, but his wife said no. They had 3 kids youngest about 10. Then his wife changed her mind, he was allowed to get one. We looked at a Yamaha R6, nice clean bike, it was bought. Before the 1st tankful of petrol was gone, it was 'Hubby, can we have another baby, my life feels unfulfilled at the moment'.

Repeat after me: "It's been 0 days since I have acquired gear that I do not need."

I thought the 'identical colour scheme' was a good idea, so made 2 surfboards exactly the same colour, which was fine until i was walking along the beach with one of them, and my wife with me...... then an attractive woman friend who i had lent the other board to walked the other way along the beach towards us. Well and truly busted!
