I know it's not Specifically Surfing, but it is KiteSurfing.

I went down to the Newport Reef, Sydney on the 6th June, Wednesday, 2012 and filmed this video KiteSurfing Big Waves & Winds. The Boys were checking it out for 1 1/5 hours before they went out in Gusty wind conditions. It was Epic and Super Scary, I stayed on the beach and filmed. I'm not silly.

The guys said it was Super Gusty and that their Kites were too Big, they mainly had 8 meter Kites. They said that the 8 meter Kites were too Big for the wind conditions and that should have had 6 - 7 meters. Smaller Kites mean more control, less wind surface area, stops the Kites overpowering them and getting out of control.

Hope you enjoy the Vid.

That was far from epic.
I got to 2:30 and hadn't seen 1 turn done on a wave so I turned it off.
Don't think i missed much.

With Stu on this one sorry, great work on the vid - although split-screen is just too hard to watch for an old poley like me.

One question - why weren't they surfing the waves? Is it due to overpowered conditions? (honest question...)

That & some high-dangleys would've made it more epic-like.

I thought it was a good video. Those waves were huge and showed what can happen in Sydney. Much more real than the average kiting video of spinning and dangling that is accompanied by some rap or heavy metal sound track. Of course its in the wrong forum but it was good all the same.

Some of the videos on Graham TV are quite entertaining, especially the ones from China.

Yes I thought it was a good video by seabreeze standards. Why all the red thumbs? Because no windsurfers were out?

Here's one with a bit more dangling for you Sailhack.

What was that ??? Huey provided the waves which were sick , but the rest was just blah........good on them for having a crack but don't really see the point.

and it's not wave riding/kiting/sailing if you just go straight in the trough of the wave. you ride it from the top down, turn, get to the top again and again and again and again. Just showed to well that kite wave riding does not work. otherwise was an alright vid

If the guy riding strapless was riding a board with straps I think he would have had a much better chance of getting in a few rides down the line instead of just getting ripped off the board when getting overpowered.
Strapless riding in waves that big just seems pointless.
Full credit to the guys for taking it on though

Yeah the Guys said they were overpowered with Kites they had. They said once they got out beyond the southern headland, the wind was way stronger than expected.

Glad this Vid gets you talking. Big Waves & Winds, Scary stuff whether your a Surfer, KiteSurfer, WindSurfer or Yatchie. Those conditions can some cause serious damage.
I appreciate all the WindSports skills.

It's all about the Adventure, isn't it ?
