was just wondering what the best configuration would be for a rack in a ILOAD wanting a bed at the top though and the rest can be for gear and also what the best material would be to use

How many boards, sails, masts and boom do you have, would be my first question.

What boards etc too are they wide.

There are many ways to skin a cat. This is mine. It's not an Iload, but the principle is the same.

Starting from the bottom and working up;
- Sails on the bottom
- Large wide board on the next level with extra sails
- Platform on left for single bed mattress
- Cantilevered rack for three boards on the right

Materials:

Bottom Frame: 50x25 pine
Bed support: 15mm ply
Cantilever frames: Each 2 sheets of 15mm ply screwed together. Shape cut out with jig saw
Board support: 8mm ply

can also use galvanized angle iron for the supporting frame, just bolt cut pieces together using the holes in the angle iron, makes it easy to remove or reconfigure, I made a frame out of it for a Venza to cover the area where the rear seats used to be, then covered with two pieces of 3/16" plywood to make a sleeping platform over the new storage area.

I was thinking about changing my standard shelve layout to a similar diagonal layout for fit more boards into the van. But then, my wife switched to winging 100% of the time, and needs just one board. I'm windfoiling 80% of the time, so I need just one foil board and a slapper or two. The only reason I still have 5-6 boards in the van is that there's no space in the garage.

In My opinion, and most likely mine alone, is that the most important thing is a SINGLE mattress, and possibly a cooker, then the rest should be as messy as possible, otherwise there could be a risk of family wanting to come on a trip too, so cutting down on valuable sailing time. My best trips ( surf trips pre- getting back into windsurfing) were to wet and windy spots (Ireland) which i described as such to avoid the family dilemma, in a crappy van..... As soon as i did a 'family' van conversion, and 'Holidays' to Europe, the water-time decreased dramatically.....

I can set mine up multiple ways but generally Single bed, 3 boards, shower, Fridge and bbq.

I have around 6 boards but I don't need to carry all of them at once and the widest board I have is 100cm wide foil board but the others are 72cm and smaller would like to have around 5 sails in the van but I do have more than that but I would just swap them out for each season and they are slalom gear I also have around 4 booms as well as 6 masts.

not needing room for family as it was an old electrician van so there is no seats in the back.
