Hi,
I am mucking about with a GoPro Surf at the moment and want to know other's experiences with finding the best angle to mount it on your kit.
For capturing speed, so far I have tried top of mast, front of board, above and below the clew, front of boom, nose of board and mast foot....and they look pretty good, but I wonder does anyone have any other angles or positions?

Mick, was that front of boom pointing forward? Similar to what you were doing on Sunday, capturing the windsurfer in front but from a higher perspective? Less bounce maybe?

Hi Ej,
Nah it was front of boom looking back....maybe looking forward would be good for a chase cam???

PS Nice Avatar pic...why didn't you show what happened about 2 seconds later???!!!!

Here,s what i,ve got so far, 2 new improved mast tip mounts sitting 170mm out from the tip.I just have to finish the conection for the gopro. 1 cam mount that you can fit on the mast and stick it out the cam zipper, still needs the gopro mount made.I,ve designed the boom mount that will extend 400mm past the end of the boom and 650mm up the sail. This rig should hopefully attach into the rear footstrap screws. I,m still trying to work out the nose out rigger to shoot backwards.3 and a bit weeks to go

Geez Kato..you've been busy! I wonder how the house building's going??.....
I have modified the mast foot mount and can build a forward facing rig off the boom. I also ordered a helmet strap and chest harness which we can modify (maybe for your over shoulder idea?)
Just burning out the vid from the weekend. I'll post a link when it is ready.

How did you go mounting the camera on the nose of the board?
I tried using the surf suction cup, which looked great from there, but I landed one backloop and it blew it off the board on landing...

the helmet is just too high and doesnt give the conditions justice!

a freind of mine raced motocross last month with a special waist band that held the camera on the chest.. that looked sick!

Gee it took someone awhile to bite

Mick - great vid. Really think the mast cam and nose cam give some great perspectives. I particularly like the mast cam shots. Music wasn't as good as your last cut. Nickleback maybe? Floyd? Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter?

Hehe... no, last time I think it was taken a little seriously. Figured it best to let that one slide

Yeah, really nicely edited video too. There's certainly potential in those various points of view.

What's wrong with "Ned's Atomic Dustbin", Old Salty?.....
they were one of the great "shoe staring" bands of the 90's!

What house What FILM Edit Just picked up two of the steel posts so they go in tomorrow night. The mast cam mount should be able to go forward and just above or below the boom. Just started carving the alumium blocks to take the cameras.

Good work Drift, will be good to see more! Katos mast tip footage looks sweet, could get another rider in that frame. @ 1:30 is that smooth rotation of the frame my board orbiting as I got slamed or a speccy effect?

222 the nose mount was an aluminum plate straped around the nose and tensioned by another strap to the base. Not pretty but it seamed to work. When all the mounts are finished I,ll post some photos.

Spotty, I'd like to say it was a special effect...but nah...it was you perfecting a submarine gybe!!. What would have been awesome is if you had kept going through a full rotation!!!!

The mast tip will look even better when we take a bit more flex out of it.
I got hold of a helmet mount and a chest mount that KA222 was talking about in the post above.
I reckon we might get something interesting out of that...just coz you are looking down the line at the mast hand and the board beyond.
Man, with all this camera stuff I gotta remember to get on the water as well!.

i have made a few short videos with the go pro some with the head cam , some with a board mount , some with it about 2m up kite lines , some under water shots , none on the sailng gear yet . it seems to work well any where . one thing i have noticed is battery life is shorter the colder the weather . this is a short one from dutchies a few months ago when it was warmer

Hi KAOS69,
Like the sub surface stuff...
was the camera on a mount or were you just holding the cam just under the surface??

The latest mounts finished for people to use at "Al,s not here speedfortnight" BYO GoPro

The one Spotty used. Looks a bit rough but it works with no damage to the board. There will be two available.

New mast top mount. 4 available

New Mast mount. I had hoped to mount this in the cams but its too tight to work so it fits above/below the boom

All rigged up

Hi Kato,
Looks great..
just a quick tip with the last photo....I am in no means an expert but for Speed Fortnight you might want to try it with a board underneath your feet...also you may go even faster if you replace the ground with water!!

Hey Mick

I think it is Kato's new technique. Bury the board in the sand hang on for dear life and create a slingshot effect

There's a term for it that I can't remember, but when you can see a person in the shot your brain thinks it is you and you "feel" what is happening to them, more than if you can't see anybody. Just the arms and legs will do it.

Would hate to fall on that metal mast attachment! Ouch! Slice your head in half?

You can also use the "handlebar" attachment for booms..

Some will be available in the shop
www.seabreeze.com.au/Shop/Scripts/ soon (along with GoPro Surf/Helmet & accessories...)

You soften the end up by mounting a camera on it mind you i could shave with the fin

We tried some of the GoPro mounts but their just a bit too flexable and wouldn,t stay put on the mast top,esp when i did a few chop hops Like all the things we mount on the boards....don,t hit them it will hurt and cost money [}:)]
