If I had an opportunity to buy a Bic Beach 225 for under $500 USD, would that be a good purchase for a beginner that has never windsurfed, or should I pay more for a new Starboard Go Windsurfer (with daggerboard)? Or does anybody have recommendations for other boards to consider? I'm 130 lbs and would be sailing on an island lake in <15 mph winds.
Thanks

The starboard Start is my favourite board for teaching on. Wide and stable, I have not yet had someone not up, going and having fun within a few minutes. Plus I still use it for light wind freestyle and cruising over the reef. With a shed full of really good light wind gear there are still times I dig the Start out and just go have fun. If the Go you mentioned Is at a good price it'd be a good option. That said there are lots of great beginner boards out there. Make sure it's got plenty of width and you start with a small rig. Best of luck!

The Beaach 225 would be perfect for a beginner. As to value for money that translates to about $700 here and sounds a bit pricey for what would be quite a few years old. Or does it include a rig? Or hardly used?
Just make sure it has not had water in it, repairs can be difficult on these types of board skin. Also, no soft spots in standing areas.
If thats the case, then maybe.

Check the deck too. If theres not much grip on it it will decrease the fun factor ALOT! You can't learn if you keep slipping off.
Are there any locals that can help you too. Can you get a picture of the kit you are looking at?
Can you get some lessons before you buy?
