Specs say 4.60 mast 25 ICMS and that's what I use, also says 24cm extension. With that extension and down to the max, the leech is loose about 1/3 but the middle batten is too far under the front of the luff. If I set a 28cm extension and tighten it, for the batten to feel
like able to turn, the leech is soft almost to the boom.

is this normal? I was trying to use that sail in light wind but as it is a waves one, maybe I'm trying to do the impossible (to tune this sail for light winds).

I'd say that a 7m wave sail would be great in light winds, although at that size they are not really true wave sails and more a cross over sail.

I'd say too that as its quite an old sail that it is not compatible with the mast being used.
Prydes like to have a looser leech than most other brands but not all the way to the boom.

When I go alone like today, I don't carry my phone so I can avoid worrying about the time,
or being called with issues like "where are you and when are you coming back". I will try to take some pics next time. The mast is a cheap 30% carbon SDM that I have because it is the longest I have. The other one as long I have is maybe 20 years old one piece of Kevlar :-)

I have a good 75% carbon but it is only 430 and I think that the extension will have to be too stretched.

Add more, maybe 5mm.
Attach boom and add outhaul before looking at batten above boom.

I think the sail says 460 Wave Pro Mast but maybe I'm wrong, I will take it out of the box and check and tell you. checked the bag: it says use Wave Pro 460 ICMS 25 or Freeride Pro 460 or Wave 460 NP masts. Do they have anything special? Or my Tribord C25 460 Cheappo will fit?

Hi Lee! I meant 1/3 of the total leech length! With the factory specs I maxed
out the downhaul topped to the bottom and it was like that. Only with a longer extension it flexed enough so the batten came looser. For me, seems the mast is too stiff. I will take pictures next time I rig it. Thanks!

Its such an old sail I think you might have curve issues even with NP masts, as they changed bend curve at some stage.

1/3 loose, head cap to boom clew, is not nearly enough. At least 2/3 loose is needed.

Think I used to run an NP X3 60% on the one I had.

I haven't had any of those sails myself, but I believe it was a Freestyle sail? These would be set-up for lots of low-end power, so the battens should "overlap" with the mast and you can adjust the amount of overlap with the outhaul (for a given downhaul setting). This will give a deep and powerful draft once there is wind in the sail. Without any pictures of the rigged sail, or any info on the outhaul setting, there is much one can do to help here.

Get the same brand on the masts as you have on the sails, can't be much easier than that...

(Unlike apple and their chargers, the different bend characteristics of masts do have a historical reason and it is not just there for profit.)
