I was just wondereing if anybody has tried these for Windsurfing...on their page there is an image of somebody with thier feet in straps.

Any feedback would be welcomed...

I know this is wierd, but a bud of mine, a very good Formula rider, always wears regular white gym socks and swears by the grip and feel.

Would sand ingress not be a problem on a beach?

the shop where I buy mine (skinners.cc/en/cms/technology) used to stock the brand you mention but no longer do as according to them they weren't protective enough for sharp rocks and reef.

I have wide toes/high arch and just don't like the feeling of booties
Windsurf wavesailing I would launch the rock walk in split toe booties then sail out the back and take them off and tie loop around the universal joint.
The next idea was to plan the sail back in and put booties on out back then sail in but doesn't always work when big set rolls in but lets be honest as doesn't happen.
I found some spots ok to walk around sharp shells for windsurfing but the pull of kiting cuts your feet up! Really interested to catch up with real life experiences of both projects ??

I've have been wearing them for about three years and really like them. The sand does get in and fill up the space in the toe if you have short toes. Super tough and really take the edges off any sharp hits they have been great when I kick the foil

You don't have any issues with them pulling off when you pull the feet out of the straps?

Any warmth factor?

Could be good for winter surfing and walking back over the rocks.

The sea urchins seem to be slowly coming back around Pt Henry Geelong. Booties help but the spines still penitrate, I wonder if they would offer any better protection.

They only come in a single size so... I don't know if "any good" but likely "not as good"

No they fit pretty firm around the foot the red swiss bit is a bit floppy around my skinny ankles but once there on they don't move. They do take a bit to put on to get your toes in the holes.

The skinners are actually really good, I thought they would slip off and move around but they don't. You can certainly feel when you step on a sharp object like a shell but so far no cuts

I bought some cheap cut resistant socks off aliexpress. I found out that they were great on a padded deck but not so great on a deck that was gritty, as the little green grip pads on the bottom of the sock started to get worn down and I lost traction. I did a few tests with the kitchen knife, I tried slicing through them and the socks held together, I put the socks on and tried the same thing. I could not bring myself go psycho stabbing myself, so not sure how they would be against sea urchins. At my spot there is a fair amount of oysters and rocks, so far the socks are holding up.
I use them when foiling as I cut my toe on the rear foil and it put me out of the water for a long month. But when I am on regular fins I prefer not to wear them. But if I go from foiling to being on a slapper I do feel kind of naked without them.
Winter is coming up and normally I don't wear booties but I would like to see if these socks will provide me with a little bit more comfort from the wind.

Need essentials booties are good and also good value. The low cut ones feel very free and you are going to be much better protected by their rubber sole. Cheers Jens

Used split toe Atan booties. Not as warm in super cold waters but really nice board feel.

Have used ATAN 3mm for years, more feel than reef style booties and better slide in/out of straps so less risk of injury, but less tough on the sharp stuff as tradeoff

I used the skinners for the first time yesterday and I really like them. I could not notice I had them on as they are so light and thin, slipped in and out of the straps really easily which was great as I had a couple of really big foil breaches and crashes...ha. My only issue would be they do get sand in them but I only noticed it when I was unrigging.....good exfoliation for my manky old man feet.
Lets see how long they last but so far its a thumbs up.

Pro:
great feel , similar to barefoot (great on deck but also painful on rocks)
extremely cut resistant (zebra mussels do nothing to them, don't even fray them), no cut with foils
long wearing (looks like new even after several months of use every 3 days average for 3-5h at a time wingfoiling)
don't come off even with hard falls
more slippery to come out of the straps than even barefoot
fits my 8-9 US feet perfectly
relatively quick drying and don't stink like neoprene
cheap, esp on AliExpress

Con:
only one size, my son's size 10 and long toes don't fit
the antigrip pads do wear out a bit on the heel after a few months
no warmth at all
does not protect against pointy stuff like broken sharp shells, plant needles and presumably sea urchin
friends will make fun of you esp if you buy the brownish one, the black one looks more like regular neoprene booties

I like them so much I bought another 4 pairs, but so far only used 1 pair and still lasting after several months
