The 2018 Youth Nationals kicked off today up at,
www.rqys.com.au/msos/

A record number of 24 Kids entered in the windsurfing divisions.

Tomorrow is the first official racing, expecting light winds, with 2 windy days to follow..

Great to see this class working so well, and all the work people like you are putting in to it.

Why didn't the bic techno have 3 races and the bic + did

Must be different wind limits for different classes

There is 2 fleets at the event.
When the wind and waves really kicked, only the 8.5m fleet stayed out for the last race.
Safety issue mostly.

When the wind strength falls into the parameters of the rules of racing isn't it up to the sailors to make that decision

Sailors decide whether they go out or not but the comity decides whether the racing is on or not (for each categories).

That is a very grey area and it can favour certain sailors

Was a great event, my kids had a great time, caught up with friends from previous regatta's and made some new ones as well.

They had some good moments and some bad ones as well but I know it's the good ones they will remember. They are still discussing the battles on the race course and making plans for the next regatta in a few months

Thanks to Australian Sailing, RQYS and most of all the volunteers for running the event.

Each year the Techno Fleet in Australia gets bigger and the standard of the sailors improves. If you can, get your kids involved in windsurfing as a sport, after all having windsurfing as a parental obligation is the best excuse you can have to go windsurfing every weekend and buy new windsurfing gear and go on windsurfing holidays and have family discussions about windsurfing and share the passion.

As a result of this event, Australia and New Zealand have now qualified for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in the Bic Techno 293 Plus! This was a very exciting regatta with close racing between Australia and New Zealand.

Max van der Zalm from New Zealand claimed the Gold medal in the Boys' division ahead of Alex Halank from Australia who has become Australian Sailing Youth Champion gaining selection to the Australian Sailing Youth Team to represent Australia at the next World Sailing Youth Championships in Corpus Christie in July. Very close to the top two boys, Veerle ten Have from New Zealand was third place in the regatta and first in the Girls' division followed by Grae Morris from Australia who claimed third place in the Boys' division with a strong finish to the event. The second placed girl, Australian Hailey Lea gained selection to the Australian Sailing Youth Team and held onto the silver medal ahead of fellow Australian Amelia Quinlan who was ahead in all races on the final day to take the bronze medal in the Girls division.

It was awesome to see that the competitors also became great friends with the organisers, coaches and parents all contributing to a friendly, inclusive atmosphere that has been making the youth windsurfing events so successful.
