Hi All

I only know of one or two aussie made/designed products out there. I would like to know more. It's very hard to find this info out without asking people.

Is there some sort of registry (here or on the net) that lists aussie made windsurfing products ?. I am happy always happy to pay extra for an aussie made product (priority: aussie made&designed, aussie designed only, aussie assembled only etc) that is equal or better quality than an import.

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I did do a search

Hi Sharkbiscuit,
If you get the info I am happy to post it on my website (www.whitecapsphotography.com). I am all for supporting Australian products and I get visitors from all over Austalia and the world so it may be a useful respository

Hydrodynamix booms and OES sailboards Definitely Aussie designed. Booms I think are assembled in WA, OES sailboards I think are made in SA

Windsurfer One Design boards are made in western Sydney.

The components mainly come from OS, but the biggest piece (the hull) comes from Wetherill Park or somewhere.

Flying Objects (designed in Oz) Made OS..

A few small board builders such as NUDE and Rider Customs.. both in W.A and the others mention above.

Severne would be the biggest for Oz..

Hi guys

I had no idea there were so many Australian products out there. I will be prioritising these companies over overseas companies for sure.

Could we sticky this thread either here, in the gear topic (or both) ?

I've summaried the companies people have discussed in the head message. Could we configure this thread so that more than one person can edit it ?

Hopefully other new people (such as myself) will spot the list and consider buying local.

Cheers :). Thanks for yourr feedback.

I can't find SSD boards, NUDE boards, and Rider Custom boards on the net. I've done an excessive google.. Does anyone know these manufacturer's web sites ?

(note: Kattana Boards are "surfing" boards only according to their web site)

SSD is Stone Surf Designs, Mark Stone, Geraldton WA. Any Gero windsurf shop could give you his number, or kingofthepoint on seabreezee could.

Riders Custom is Rider5 on seabreeze

Nude is also here but can't remember who? There was pics posted recently so search "nude" on the forums?
(These forums, not others as a google search for nude may get you more than one or two results????)

And I'd really REALLY like to add Avalon Sail Co, to the list, but at only 3 or 4 windsurfing sails a year it's probably not justified, at the moment any way.
I've got my fingers crossed Bugs is going to get somebody else to do the shade sails, and he can put some time into our sort of stuff.

I only make a few boards a year now. I used to make a lot more when I was BLUEJUICE Sailboards, but now I just want to keep it as a hobbie, so I don't really need or want a website.

Dave from Katana still does sailboards he just got in a block of hot wire cut EPS blanks.

I'd really like to add Wave Wands as well

Volume is a bit low compared to a commercial operation, sadly...

What's lacking in quantity is more than made up for in quality though

If something is designed in Oz but manufactured to completion OS is that better or worse than something that is nearly finished overseas and then bolted together in OZ.

If a severne sail costs $80 to manufacture but retails for $700, then that's $620 to Australia. If a boom gets assembled here but the raw materials are 90% of the cost then what does that mean.

If you spend less on a foreign product and spend the change on VB in an Aussie pub or go on holiday to WA, then is that the same as supporting an Aussie product.

And Holden IS owned by GM... but Toyota comes from a country that hunts whales for scientific purposes...

Seabreeze Sunnies

I think these would be the in the "designed and manufactured overseas" category, wouldn't they?

They look exactly like SeaSpecs I've been using for about 4 years now and these are made in Taiwan...but I might be wrong.

Also do Leading Edge still make fins? I think they are (or used to be) based in Lancelin.

Hey and do "Sonic" still exist over east? They made mostly SLS paddleboards etc but their waveboards were awesome. I had the canary yellow Sonic 255 Wave which was the best waveboard I have ever ridden DTL, and mega tough. They had only about 3mm thick foot pads and still didn't get heel dents or delam after total abuse and flat landings - something some manufacturers now could learn from

Is there a central place to find Aussie custom made boards? Could someone compile a website of sites?

I'd happily buy a custom board for the construction because I hate Cobra construction... what is there in Victoria?
