As I spend almost as much time in the water as I do on the board. This jybe thing is much harder than it looks.

With the NEaster sailed from Wello over to manly harbour yesterday and didn't see one.

All gone bar one or two.

Last ones I seen was New Years
but they had vodka in them ..

they are bloody awful to fall on ,hope it clear for ya.

What gear do you guys wear to protect against the stingers?

Nothing special, just try not to fall in the middle of them & dont move around much if you do. We generally dont get box jellies from bundy south (you can get the odd one though) & manly harbour gets frequent sightings of some sort of box jelly. Irukanji have been in Moreton Bay always, mostly over round Moreton Island, everyone reacts different to them. Blue bottles are more seen but even dont get them too much in bay. Never seen too much in way of jellies of any sort at burrum but isnt a spot you tend to fall off alot plus we mostly head up there in SE winds. Biggest concerns for burrum are current, ray's limoncello, some sharp rocks on walk out, sandbanks, other sailors, hitting dugong/turtles, stingrays, big sharks, occasional croc then maybe stingers pretty much in that order.

Just wear your boardies on the outside, Lottawind will be your friend

What is limoncello? Just googled it - grog? That's self inflicted so I can avoid that..

How hot are the suits? Your water is already warm isn't it?

i wouldnt worry bout stinger suit for burrum, the current there makes it not so jellyfish friendly. In march rashie & boardies though sometimes 2mm shortie is nice if big se'er just for wind chill.

Up here where stinger protection is a must you get used to the suits. Great sun protection in any case and reduces cuts and scrapes. They're not hot once you're on the water. Beats the crap out of a bad jelly sting. Hard to not wear them once you're used to them.

In reality what's the difference between a stinger suit and typical Queensland sailing gear of full arm length rashie and boardies? Lower leg protection only.

The lower leg bits...the difference is the protection from walking in to beach start into a drifting Box Jelly... and the consequenr trip to hospital and lifelong scarring. Otherwise not much. I've had boxies bump my leg twice, both times while wading out with a long fin. No suit- a disaster, suit- no problem. I think whatever hassle a bit of extra Lycra is is well worth it!!!! Now if someone would release them as Phantom costumes.......
