I now have freestyle 109L board and am looking to buy a smaller board.
I'm planning to buy JP Freestyle wave board.

My level is:
Can do: Planning in harness/footstrap, waterstart
Learning: Gybing

I am 165 cm tall and weigh 53 kgs.

Which board size should I go for, 84L or 77L?

wow, the 109 must be huge for you.

I am around 85+ kgs and ride a Tabou 107 and a Tabou 84 if thats any help.

I agree with Richie, 77 is as big as you will want, and with your weight I would even consider dumping the 109 and getting on something around 99. But then thats just me and many may not agree.

Go down to RPS or SHQ and ask the guys if you can borrow a board - that way you will know what its like. Alternatively, you are welcome to have a go of my JP 85.

As for beaches, St Kilda just up from the kiters is good on a sea breeze, or Green Point on a Northerly.

Have you been to one of the Sandy Point weekends?

The JP's do ride a little bigger than the volume suggests, I use a 77 as my mid to high wing B&J board, but I'm about 35+ kg heavier.

Have a look at some of the prokids stuff. They might suit your weight. I run a Prokids S as a high wind slalom which your welcome to trial during Als speedfortnight.

Aus301 -- yeah, 109L is too big now. I agree with you that i should get something around 100L. But that has to wait coz i got not enough money to buy 2 board at the same time

Thanks for all the offers. I plan to borrow new JP demo board from SHQ before actually buying one. I'm so excited!!

On the Melbourne Cup long weekend, SHQ organise some fun events down at Sandy Point - must be just about half of the Victorian sailors turn up... They have demo gear available for people to play with too.

You could come down for the day trip - its 2.5 hours drive from the city, but well worth the drive on a good day.

given your weight, you may find that 100 is still a little big - thats close to 200% volume cf. your weight. ie: aus301's 85kg on a 99, is about 115% volume/weight; mine is 74kg on 85l which is about 115% too.

At 53kg, you probably should be looking closer to 70-80, depending on your skill level. If you start nailing those gybes, you would be looking around 60.

I know that SHQ have gotten in some very small boards for a few of the local fairer-gender, so they do have some experience there -> basically the lighter weights need smaller gear.
