Wow, not being that old, it's hard to imagine hometown looking soo ancient.
Now it looks too modern.
Almost no buildings on the north shore. None of that ugly McMahons Pt outlook.
As a child born in the 50's I was interested to see some of the old footage of Sydney. Brought back fond memories of the city in those days. Double-decker buses, no traffic lights on most city streets, police directing pedestrians, sailing boats on the lovely harbour, etc.
One day in the late 50's I was in the centre of Sydney with my mother and 2 younger brothers, when I wondered away and got lost from them. No problems for a 5 year old; I decided if I couldn't locate them, I may as well walk home (10 km) as I knew the way, so I did.
Remember waiting a few hours before they arrived home and made a fuss over me. Think mum was pretty relieved.
Wouldn't recommend doing that nowadays.
