2020 Windsurfer LT Worlds Eligibility Update

Planning for the 2020 Windsurf Worlds to be held at Mounts Bay Sailing Club in December 2020 is progressing well.

All Aussie entrants must be Financial Members of an Australian Sailing affiliated Yacht Club. More details in the Notice of Race coming soon.

I have been wondering about eligibility. A longtime windsurfer and NewSouthWelshman had told me that if you'd bought a board you could go to the worlds, and charterers would be another thing, but it seems like a LOT of people want to go. Hopefully everyone can be accommodated!

Maybe the general public should get together and put the worlds on themselves at the local beach.

FOS, membership in clubs can be had for $100 a year. You may be an elitist who only knows about rich clubs, but the rest of us know about the little ones as well. And you can buy an LT and membership in the swankiest Royal Yacht Club for less than most people spend on new windsurfing or kitesurfing kit.

Any financial sailing club members are fine as long as their club is affiliated with Australian Sailing. No need to be ladeda about it. Junior memberships are fine for juniors and they are relatively cheap to obtain and many families participate. Volunteers at clubs for worlds predominantly work tirelessly manning rescue, start and support boats, running starts, finishes and dropping and retrieving buoys, providing race management services and thereby make the event and most sailing sport happen. The LT is the cheapest sailing class in the world unless I missed something that is cheaper. It is important to support the club infrastructure and put something back by joining a club as without it sailing would not be where it is today. World Sailing Regulations require it for World Championships.

Yep, we're expecting 25 million entries from Australia and 80 million from Italy and 12 millions from Holland, with smaller numbers from other countries.

Those start lines are going to be interesting.
