I got some free sails recently, one of them being a Sailworks quadro 5.6 from the 90s.

It has 4 battens and 2 cams on the lower battens. I also got a quadro 4.4.

Wondering if they would foil well and it would be worth getting an SDM mast for them

4 battens and 2 cams. Hmmmm...sounds a lot like the current Flyer sails. Yes, of course, the Flyer has a different cut and is made from lighter materials. However, if the Quadro works at all for windsurfing, it will work for windfoiling.

I am still windfoiling with 1999-vintage Sailworks XT Racing sails in 6.4, 7.4, and 8.5 sizes. They work fine. They all take SDM masts. I have a couple Flyers, but I rarely use them so far because the XT sails just won't die. My log shows I have rigged the XT 6.4 104 times for windfoiling.

Try rdm.
If you can tension batten pockets, it works.
Then trim the extra wings of the cambers.

This sail looks great for wingfoiling. In my opinion light old sails like this are the next best thing to dedicated windfoil sails. I started out on similar era sails and they were great!

My only concern would be about the old monofilm holding up, Sail Works finally got rid of the monofilm on at least the flyers, puts them on my short list for when I need a sail.

It's free. As long as he doesn't go nuts on the mast and it's not totally UV toasted, he'll be fine. SDMs are a dime a dozen now and that one takes a vanilla CC. If something blows, tape it up until you've used the roll up. When the roll runs out, get a real Flyer.

Should be nice for the foil, they rig with a slightly loose leach and a touch of pre twist

You could probably fit new RDM Sailworks cams to it (I don't think the SDM cams on those are roller cams - it's been a while )

If you want to use an RDM mast then changing the cams would improve the overall sail performance, the older Sailworks sails worked well for SDM masts - constant curve, of coarse. The sail looks in great condition for its age and rigged with SDM mast will be great for foiling.
