Nice sailing, but if that is 30 knots then it would mean that I spend all my season in more than 40 knots. You have barely white caps in that video!

While I kinda agree with duzzi I don't want to get hung up on that. I have a question for the audience though: when I try to luff my sails like dantren is doing they jerk back and forth wildly. And of course this causes the mbp to make the nose dive and rise. I strongly suspect that I am "rigging them wrong". I'm using Goya Fringes pretty much on spec and look to me like they should IF I were on the fin. Any suggestions?

Planing on a fin is awesome but it has its limitations, mostly having to maintain a certain speed and angle to the wind. We can foil at slower speeds with out falling off and we can handle much deeper angles which makes windswell much easier to ride than on a fin, at least for me. This video shows that.

The sail is a 3.0 which rigs on a 300 mast. Over here in OZ most kids sails come bundled in a kit - mast, boom etc.

The base wind was 25+ with gusts over 30. The following is the actual wind reading from about 0.5kms away.

I rig the fringe with 1/2 the recommended down haul and a lot of out haul. Keeps the top of the leach form flapping about in overpowered luffing conditions. I tension downhaul where there is about 50% overlap of the batten at the mast. Makes a nice powered luff for ideal wind. If overpowered, lots of out haul to flatten out the luff. 25 knots with a 3.7 is my max before it becomes a struggle (at my 137lbs).

Thank you! I'll try it. When you say 1/2 the recommended downhaul what do you mean exactly? For example, on my 4.2 it calls for 10cm of extension while my 5.0 needs 12 if I recall, but on a different length mast. Or maybe you mean that you don't downhaul to the dot, but only half way? Oh, the sailing is great, I wish I could do that. The comment is just a peeve of mine, nothing to do with foiling. i just never understood why people have to exaggerate the strength of the wind they sail in. 30 knots, sustained, is a massive amount of wind. But yes, sorry, I don't want to kidnap the thread. Great foiling!

Depending on the sail brand you might try the ezzy legacy 60% carbon they have a 315 bottom that you can use with 340 top. I have had good luck with the 340 on my 3.4 and 3.7 Naish force 4 sails look great when rigged and perform well when foiling.Also if you want to spend the big bucks Chinook 100% super light comes in a 340

The new 70% Chinook 340 is a brilliant mast. I bought one for my kids to use with an absolutely ancient but immaculate 3.0 Ezzy.
Also Goya have a 310 which is I believe 60% and well reviewed.

I am not sure about kid's masts. They are available and affordable but are they really gonna be strong enough? I have broken a handful of adult masts.

Agreed, if you have a smaller sail. Otherwise, less downhaul to keep the top of the leech tighter, and out haul to flatten out the luff. The power and balance does not feel great, but no flapping about. Cambered sails deal with it a lot better, but hard to find In small sizes. 3.4 is the smallest I've seen.

That's fair and one of the things I'm going to concentrate on as this season starts: rigging smaller. That said, I probably outweigh thedoor by 15 lbs and he rigs the same or bigger than me consistently. (GregG rigged much smaller when I saw him in Baja.)
