It works - don't notice the aft area and it does feel lighter up front. It's a small change but I'm stoked so far

While our goals are different we are both using the same concepts to achieve them.

A little bit of length really improves take off ability. This can be used to decrease the required foil/sail size.

Moving the rider, foil and sail closer to the center of the board lowers swing weight. So you can have a longer board for the same swing weight.

Having board behind the foil is not the kiss of death like it would be for fin boards, in fact it can be a good thing on a foil board.

It was a challenge breaking myself away from this new build to celebrate Thanksgiving but Family is first and now I have the weekend free to keep playing with this!

Foil and straps forward, and the sail all the way back is the way to go. Gives such a good feeling when riding - the rig connects to pretty much where your front foot is.

Space between the front footstrap and mast base is necessary for me to keep control at 20-24 knot speeds in swells with small foils and unstable wavesails
So the foil-mast, foostraps and mastbase dimensions are the same as I always ride - I've jsut shifted all forwards to reduce the nose length/swing weight.

Nice experiment, and amazing speed. I have been struggling in getting over 20 knots since in my spot there are short wind driven waves and bearing away it is challenging at speed because of the waves not being smooth as a swell would be. Nevrtheless going upwind in 14-15 knots of wind I was able to reach 17 knots of speed on a 5.7 (which is overpowered in those condition), this would mean that the potential to get over 20 should be there propably on a flatter sea state spot. The ratio between wind speed and speed of the rider speed is also interesting since they are close; efficiency wise the ratio could be higher than 1 so provided control is there you should get even faster with proper conditions. did you ever tried on a flatter sea state?

Interesting modification. I love short boards on the fin and foil. I am on 4.7( link below) (my biggest sail) on a Wizard 114l. Nice set, but with sails 4.2 (basic sail), 3.7 (favorite) and 3.4 (used several times), the board could be smaller and more stable. I'm looking for a better feel for the foil. I don't want to be just a passenger :) I swim on lakes from 12 to 25kts. I found Wizard 90l on sale. I bought it and there will be a forecast in 2 days and I'm going to test it on a lake in Poland. I'll let you know. My weigh 83kg, foil on ptm926 and phantasm mast 103W. ( I'm thinking about 125cm. Anyone had it and can say something? I'm not afraid of height, I'm just afraid that the stiffness of the mast will be lower )

I'd like to hear how the 90l works out. I'd love to have one ( I'm on the 114), but I'm afraid of slogging for 20 minutes back home when the wind goes to 5 knots. There are a lot of lulls between the puffs where I live.

Have you tried riding the board with the inboard wingfoil straps positions on your Wizard?
I noticed the smaller MB Basilisk Boards have more inboard strap positions similar to the Wizard wing foil strap position. This would kill 2 birds with 1 stone, more inboard and closer to the mast base! Worth a try?

Yes I've tried inboard straps and mast base close to the front straps. It doesn't work for me because I optimise for speed downwinding and power rail carves (in a freeride context). I want directional and roll stability from the board setup as I don't get much from smaller 550cm2 / 255cm2 foil.

Simon loves his super inboard compact geometry - he optimises for turns, 360's and wave riding.
