Hi Guys,
I am considering starting winging next year, and I have a few question to start planing my next purchases in that sense:
My JP Freefoil 130 is supposedly designed to wing, but the problem is that I have a Moses Vento with Deep Tuttle mast ; while the JP website says that for winging, the foil should be place in the track as futher forward as possible (the twin tracks under are quite long and allow a placement of the foil up to probably 20 cm+ further forward than the deep tuttle).
Do you think I can still have decent performance by using the deep tuttle of the board ? Or is it worth trying to find solution for an Al. mast with plate adapter ? I am guessing that for winging, it is better to be further in the center of the board to minimize the swing weight in front ?
Assuming I keep the foil in the deep tuttle, balance should remain unchanged vs windfoil, should I keep the front foot strap ? Or it is better to ride strapless first ?
With a 130L board, I am assuming shlogging upwind will not be too much of a challenge , altough maybe not as efficient as in windfoil ? I keep hearing upwding performance can be a problem with windfoil, but it is not too clear for me if this issue is just applicable for small 50 ish liter board for which you can only kneel at first.
Would my Moses 1100 wing be a good wing to start with ? And I could change for the 790 eventually if wind is strong ?
As for the wing, I am hesitating between the Duotone Echo and the Duotone Unit. I am guesing that for riding in relatively flat water, and also learning, the Duotone Echo is the best choice ? But is it suitable too for surfing and letting the wing float if ever I make some trips in wave places ? Or does the boom make the wing too heavy for that ?
With the duotone Echo, is it possible to use a Harness at all if desired ? I know it is rideable without harness, but I am thinking a harness can help reduce tireness and extend my sessions.
What size would you recomend for 12-20 knots, 80kg rider ? I would tend to go for the 5.0, I am afraid the 6.0 will be quite big to handle.
Thanks,
Max.;
I've been winging on a SS Wizard 125 (windfoil board with deep tuttle and no plate adapter) with the foil in the wrong settings (too far back), but it actually works really well.
Best bet if you want to save some cash, buy a wing and just try it out on your current board. Good thing with winging ... if there's not enough lift move further back and if there's too much lift move further forward.
Maybe use your 130 board to see how you get on. If you love winging it'll help you avoid buying the bigger first board and you can make your first winging board a smaller one .. if you want to save some cash.
