I'm going for the alloy "mast" and carbon winglets, the manta 2 windfoil by kitefoil.
1200 us$ delivered.
http://www.thekitefoil.com/#!manta-2-2016/frb72

Pro :
cheap compared to full carbon
seems to be easily de rigged to fit car (you can order the cover)
comes with beginner wings , when you get better you upgrade to speed wings but keep the same mast
optimized for windsurf deep tuttle boxes, the mast in "inclined" forward, so you don't have to fit a new box (I discussed with the hybrid neil pryde developer, he agrees that's the way to go)

Con :
Alloy may not be as rigid as carbon (but still resists to 2.9 ton/cm3)
Possible oxydation between alloy and stainless steel bolts (they provide a gel and recommend rinsing after each use)

As far as I'm concerned it will only be used in 9/14 knts, after that I'll switch back to slalom gear. So i don't see the point of spending $$$ in a full carbon set.

Same cost (or cheaper) as a 4.90 mast+ long boom+ 9.0 sail

And really good fun !!! (might get a helmet though)

I am also very interested and I contacted Horue recently.
I want to use it for light wind ocean sailing - up to 15 knots.
Cost for foil only is 1450Euro plus about $250 to ship and you may have to pay GST.
I already have a slalom board with a deep tuttle box so I would not buy the Horue foil board (they are on special at the moment).
I will wait to see what happens with Neil Pryde and their developments.

Checked their website, nice stuff and quite affordable (and aussie made edit : not) but what's the difference between the kite and wind foil? (a part from the mounting head)

USA made. The LP foils come with choices of 2 mast lengths, 2 front wings, 2 rear wings and 3 fuselage lengths.
With deep Tuttle, Tuttle, and plate mounts.
The longest fuselage is for windsurf you choose the rest.

Would love to try it, though doubt I'd buy one, especially if I need a new or modded board.

oops I saw bingen WA, and thought western australia

Yet to find a video of the LP windsurfing foil.

It "seems" though that for a better result you need to relocate the fin box forward, hence why the alloy one is inclined forward.

Same as you, plug anf play is the go. I guess I'll use mine (when I get it) without mods and re inforce the box if it cracks.
Planning (or planing ) tu use my patrik 128, from what I've tried and seen 80 cm wide boards are fine.

Was thinking of putting my son's 6.4 3 cam sail on it but the local guru told me I'd be better off with a 6.0 wave sail as you need the power of the sail at the back.

I am up for a crack at it. Not sure whether to buy something, maybe horue. Or have a stab At designing and building. Think a few different sizes will be needed. Also pondering why they fly so high. A reckon a shorter foil mast fin stupid name for it thing and just skimming the top of the chop is more my scene than the high altitude space race.

90cm is good for easier learning. But a longer mast works better to keep you clear of the surface. Going too short will keep you bouncing off surface.
Stiffness in foiling is very important and carbon is stiffer than alloy. Plus a windsurf board would put more pressure on a mast and show up lack of stiffness more than in kiting.

LOL the high altitude space race is bloddy frightening at first !!

Probably cause you head is now close to 3m above water level.

I want one. But if it costs the same as a new board, I just can't justify it.

Has anyone got rough dimensions to share for a learner set up? Fin/mast length and mast chord. Main wing span and chord and stabiliser span and chord and fuselage length. Otherwise I will Try to scale off photos.

With the amount of work that appears to be going into foils in Windsurfing, Kiting and now even SUP! I get the feeling in 2-5 years we'll all be foiling on something

Wow ..good going ..you can see the pressure on the foil .( mast ).a definite visible bend in it .
<div>I'd better start saving ...I gotta give this a go.

If I didn't live in Mandurah which has a large inlet estuary which is very shallow and weedy, or our ocean which is lined with shallow depth reefs (great for waves) I couldnt see myself buying one, but would like to try one at a different location than Mandurah.

Ah yes....the WA weed ,you would defiantly catch a lot of weed with this one ..900 plus the wings ..imagine having to get off and clear the weed off that.
Or hitting a shallow reef ...would make a great face plant from 3 metres up In the air....

made for deep clear water....maybe the swan river ..or little lagoon up north .

Would've been a tight fight with Pierre Mortefon.

being a funny race, he went out with the foil as he's testing them out for F4 (been for a while)

His comment was it seemed like he'd only done a few tacks cause it was so comfy even with the being chop.
