I recently bought a Fanatic Foilstyler (100L, 2m, 64cm wide, double US rail).
I added a Fanatic Carbon Foil (90cm Mast, 90cm fuselage, aero carve Wing 1150cm2 / 250cm2).
After sailing many Times, I still have the same problem :
the Foil always want to go up out of the water once in the air.
what I did as adjustments :
maximum setback of the Foil in the US rail
maximum advancement of the footstraps
shim on the stabilizer
advanced mast foot
Despite of this adjudtments, my problem persits. I'm considering 2 changes :
Buy a shorter fuselage, 78cm, which allows the front wing to be moved back 10cm
Buy a smaller wing ?
Or perhaps a setting I may not have seen ?

How far have you gone with the shimming ?. If your foil mast is all the way back, and straps all the way forward, I would keep decreasing the angle of attack on the stab. I had one setup that required 1.5 degree to prevent over foiling.

Hi Franck

Firstly I love that board.

Second bullroarer took knows those wings so make sure you check with him, and I think he may have some intel on the fuselage geometry, so maybe try DMing him

third, what other windfoiling have you done and on what gear?. I am assuming you know that for foilstyle/swellstyle you spend most of the time sailing around with at least 60% of your weight on your front foot.

I am not a fan of short fuselage, so I would steer clear of that, sounds like you have tried shimming, moving mast foot forward and moving straps forward, I would look for a less liftier stab first. Ideally fanatic produce a variety of stabilizers that give different amounts of lift to the foil and then maybe a smaller foil.

PS: for swellstyle/foilstyle if things are set up well and I am well powered I find it difficult to beam reach without hecka lot of weight on harness and front foot. I spend most of my time pointing and bearing off. I think the freestyle guys do reach but they move their back foot forward out of the strap most of the time to hold their foil down until they want to jump

Is this your first time windfoiling? Or, just new gear? I would not go shorter fuse until every other conceivable option has been tried. +1 on the stab angle. I see that your foil uses wedges according to the web site? Is it possible that you've chosen a wedge with too great an angle? Sorry to cover something you probably already know but the stab should be angled down, not up, ie it's working to push the back of the fuse down in the water.

My first question is how much do you weigh? I'm 82 kg for reference. My second is to make sure you bought the Fanatic Foilstyler and not the new Duotone Stingray 103. Identical except that with the Duotone version they moved the tracks back 10 cm. Makes them work better with their own foils.

i loved that board too, but it was just a little too small for me to uphaul and as a result didn't get used enough. Even on our windy days our launches are sheltered from over development. Yay progress! So I sold it to theDoor and it's all he uses now.

Anyway, the fanatic fuse places the foil very forward. About 10 cm more forward than the SAB90 for example. So putting the foil back is correct (assuming Fanatic). The Carve 1150/250 combo is also my favorite. I sail that at -0.7* shim. ( 3D printed) But the -0.5 is close enough. I put the sail in the center of the track.

What worries me is that you aren't too far off based on what you said. So keep at it. TheDoor rides with much more front foot than I do and so does George Grisley(?). He's a Duotone freestyle pro who uses the Duotone version of that board. He rides with the Aero Free 1000 slammed all the way forward. But he need pop for freestyle of course. He has lots of YouTube videos and is great about answering questions. Since he jumps a lot you can see where he puts the foil!

My shimming is at -0.5d. The effect is not huge, it just seems to slow down a bit.
I started with the Glide Foil from NeilPryde with my Stubby Freewave 95L. It was OK, but I was afraid of breaking it!
Then I bought the FoilStyler. It worked with the Glide, but it seemed to be too loud. If I remember correctly, I had to set it in the middle of my US rail. Then I bought the Fanatic Carbon foil, and here I am :)
I confirm, my board is the FoilStyler :)
I started with the 216 cm2 stabilizer, and that's what I changed first to the 250 cm2. It seems to go a bit slower now.
My weight is 80 kg, and I'm 1.90 m tall.
I think the wedge is set in the correct position.

fwiw, when I've occasionally sailed my pryde foils, I found that they balance better and more like my other foils (AFS, Starboard) by adding a shim. I'm used to a fair amount of front foot pressure as it makes a lot of things easier - getting through lulls, jibes, etc. Echoing Bullroarer above (or should I say Mr. Took? ) it may be learning to sail with more front foot pressure that works ultimately. As the Starboard + and ++ fuses show, for example, you can put the front wing in different places and have everything balance out with some changes in stab angle. In the performance world, it's not uncommon to have a fairly significant difference in shims depending upon conditions so don't be afraid to experiment.

Separately, don't be in a rush to go to a smaller wing. Something around 1100 is a good all-round size for freeriding (about the same size as my AFS F800 and the SABFoil 799) and can be sailed into some pretty stiff breezes. Just scale down your sail size as needed. Yes, smaller wings develop less lift but are also faster which may make transitions in those conditions more challenging.

Have you tried taking off the footstraps and also really hang your weight off the harness with your hips forward.

If your first foil board was the stubby freewave I am thinking of, its a fin board, and you would of needed lots of back foot pressure to make it fly, but that will not work on a foilstyler or other swellstyle board. Anyways let us know how you do

I have the Foilstyler 93 as my stronger wind board.
When I first ser it up had the foil mast exactly the same distance from front straps as my light wind ride. Ended up moving foil back another 8cm back to keep the front foot pressure the same (still on the front foot, which is preferred).
I think beginner/ intermediate foil freeriders tend to carry too much sail until they learn the art of light wind flight with smaller sails. Maybe this is counter productive as power gets them flying but once up the sail creates to much lift.
Franck7627 , what size sail are you using?
If larger the 6.0 in 12 knots or more, spend more time practising pumping up on foil with a smaller sail.
For reference I use a 4.0 on 92 ltr with 1000cm2 in 15 knots.
