Saw this clip and thought it was a good comparison. As someone who is always trying to improve their stance in all disciplines (after seeing how bad it is in some videos), it could help. Noticing that I used to collapse my front knee way too early and it makes a big difference to ride with a straighter front leg and more vertical.

It's these subtle tweaks that make half a knot difference or 10s-30s at the top mark!

Very interesting movie clip. In the clip, she also sails a lot higher in 2024. It that just chance?

The 2021 stance looks quite similar to a typical slalom stance, the 2024 more like a typical Andy Brandt figure 7, with the front hand on the uphaul added in longboard / RS-X style. I wonder if the 2024 stances changes to a 2021 stance when it gets really windy? Not many white caps to be seen in the movie clip.

Probably but I'd like to know too. I've been mostly freeride foiling lately and haven't been on the race kit enough to play and experiment with it. It's a lot easier to go into the 7 on freeride kit for me. I've grabbed the uphaul while going upwind like that when it was fairly light on the iqfoil kit, but I guarantee my stance was poor.

Personally I think you need both in your toolkit; VMG is a function of speed and angle, and stance #1 optimizes speed while #2 optimizes angle. Depending on the circumstances in a given race one or the other will be most appropriate, but neither is necessarily always the "right" one.

Yeah it definitely feels like it needs to change going hard up vs. reach vs. broad.

The cool thing is that the kit is still so capable that you can get a lot wrong in stance, ride without breaching, and still go pretty fast. But getting dialed and optimal for various angles takes a lot of work.

I am also noticing the front wing distance from the mast makes a significant difference for the stance. When use my 115 F4 fuselage vs 110+7 fuselage, using the same front and back wing, my stance is significantly forward on the 110+7. 110+7 is more powerful as expected. I also change my harness position more forward with the 110+7 set up.

You have to go upwind with the less drag possible, that's flying high as possible. The first part of the video is a somewhat high wind upwind, you want to get more control and flex your legs, second half is about low wind upwind
