Yesterday was yet another reminder of how foiling has transformed my days on the water
On a fin, it would have been 8.6 and still pretty crap as so gusty/messy
Instead, Stingray 140 + Supercruiser + 5.3 wave sail made for a hoot - go way upwind, surf way deep, float through most lulls, blast at 20 knots on the reaches or slow it right down to ride the swells - then big board floated my 95+kg home no drama when the breeze died
Traditional is still SO fantastic, but over + over the foil turns lemons into lemonade
And Formula was great for light conditions, but race foil setups are WAY more fun

Can't agree more. Thought it was windy enough for my slalom gear (113L and 7.0m) yesterday, but after one run out and back in the chop and only just powered up, came in a changed to a bigger board, with a foil and a 6.0m. Had a blast covering over 90km all around the river. Love the slalom gear, but not so much in marginal and choppy conditions. Was also thinking how it was just like the old Formula days, when you could blast around everywhere and still get back in if the wind dropped or picked up (but even more fun with a foil)!

and Dave, if you can be bothered ... in a nutshell, how do you create these track maps? - hoping to get a Motion soon, the various track uploads on the forums are great but I'm not a tech guy (my current GPS is pre-Doppler!) give me some clues and I'll upskill

That's it exactly. My ToW has doubled with foiling mostly because I couldn't be bothered to rig north of 6.0. Now I don't have to.

Fwiw I use an Apple Watch 6 and the Waterspeed app. It's taught me a lot about my takeoff speed, stall speed and max speed for my foils. I can generate a similar map to what is above. I don't know if it's the best answer, and it's probably not the cheapest, but it was dead easy.

Peter, that map is straight off KA72 (www.ka72.com/). Just click on your own or anyone else track and it comes up with that map and then expand to full screen and zoom in or out! I just took a screen shot, cropped it and saved to the desktop to then upload into the above post. Even if you're not using your GPS to post to the GPSTC, you should still be able to post your track to KA72 to take a look at it.
