Too weedy on the ocean so Simon came up with this odd little river tour.
Flying up and down the narrow part of the river, gybing around moored boats, riding boat wakes and hunting gusts in the lee of the cliffs - not only doable but heaps of fun windfoiling

Anyone got any tracks or pix of interesting foiling trips to post?

14km roundtrip - up on foil 100%.
SW 5-20 knots, 4.7 & 5m Simmer Triceras, Infinity 76 wings.

Foiled with Stroppo between the bridges in Mandurah in the winter. Soon as we hit the water the wind dropped so we headed up into town. Got a decent squal come through for a few minutes of fly time while we were up there then a slow plod back. Not the best session but certainly my most unusual.

What do you guys bring with you on these longer sails? I have a bay that I can sail across which can be 2-5 miles or more depending on how long I want to be out and deal with the wind dying. Some kind of water/food/equipment?

I usually have a camel pack on with 1-2 litres of sports drink in it. I done 108km a couple of months ago without the need to come in for a break and 105 km this month and only came in to change down front wing. I also carry a couple of flares in it as I often foil alone and in off shore winds but you don't need long runs to pile on the distance.
Battery on GPS died so probably done a few more kms than recorded.

Interesting how foiling opens up water to explore with the possibility of decent speed so it's not boring.

I gave up trying to count them. About 80at a guess. Fell off on 3 of them.

If I was going a couple miles off shore I would carry a cell phone (if there are offshore cell towers), or my InReach sat. communicator, a VHF radio is another option.

Okay, that's it. I'm moving to Australia

I did 58.3km last Sunday in the outer harbor in Toronto. Was 2 trips actually, needed a lunch break in between sessions
The width of the bay isn't more then 200m across, so lots of gybes and 360s. I'm still not impressed with the data collection of the gps points in smart mode on my garmin will try my luck with 1sec data next time out. Trying to get those azymuth looking carves going

That's a lot of corners, what's the water and air temp over there now. Must be cooling down.
I stopped there overnight in an airport hotel one November and it was -9c with a wind chill of god knows how cold. England felt tropical at 5c when I arrived there the following day.

It was 6C airtemp and 13C water, but stayed toasty in my 5.5/4.5, 3mm hood, 6/5 boots that were too warm almost. Didn't wear gloves for the first 21km track then had to put on my dakine cold water gloves. Going to experiment with dish gloves next time it's that tempBlack latex gloves aren't grippy enough.

November can be cold with snow but it can also be 13 degrees for multiple days like next weeks forecast. It's usually the best time of year to catch the best wind and waves

I used to windsurf in temps like that in England but doubt I would now I am used to the WA climate. My neighbours used to think I was mad scraping frost off the car windows and hitching up the trailer. Going soft in old age.

Here is my longest cruise from last summer (Lake Macquarie, NSW). It's a big lake, it about 17km from my most northerly to southerly points. I think it was about an 87km trip. There is a fair bit more lake to the south, so plenty of options for longer trips.

What gear were you using, were you able to foil the whole way or were there wind shadows?

Like Simon, I'm curious if you managed to stay foiling the whole way, how much wind did you have and how big are the hills?

I used my 140 litre Fanatic Stingray, Slingshot (Moses) Ghost whisperer 101 and an old 5.5m TR7 Maui race sail.
The wind was a summer seabreeze getting up to 20 kts at times from the Northeast, it took me about 4 hours.
I sailed as far as I could into each bay still flying then turned round. Generally there is 200-300 metres on the SW of that large island where there is not enough wind to fly.
By myself, although plenty of other people out and about.

I don't tend to travel to far or carry any food or water , but in saying that I don't mind doing a few gybes on this little 400m run that's good for 100km in a solid afternoon on the water

We can get big waves on east, I don't have enough experience yet to tell you the exact size per conditions, but probably could easily get 6ft at 6 or 7 seconds. Someone reported head high waves in Mississauga on Lake Ontario Friday, 12-15kts offshore winds-maui conditions
Not as much long period waves like your accustom to JJ, but I bet you would still shread

Super tracks - looks like you made a serious attempt to cut a permanent trench in the water

A little run up to Rockingham and back i did a little while ago

a couple more tracks around the 50k mark where i foiled around the gold coast a bit more
