Is it just me but are Starboard foils and parts not up to the standard we expect, ie not fitting, or misaligning. Foiling is a sport of micro adjustments but their gear currently seems a little all over the place. I am a loyal Starboard sailor but my patience is again stretched with a non fitting -2 255 thin stabiliser.

ps I think Berowne chat on speed and breaking 30kts really informative and the videos had me laughing out loud.
28kts my target for this year!

I did not have any problem with my IQfoil set up, except that I had to cut top portion of the mast to get right angle on the provided guideline.

All my starboard gear works great

Yeah TBH I haven't had much trouble out of my Starboard gear. Now, another brand's SDM masts, on the other hand....

I know what you're saying about the shims, the +1 on mine isn't a great fit, but other than that, everything has worked great.

No (real) problems over here since 4 years.
Just keep an eye on the right length of the screws used , don't overtighten them and apply a bit of Tefgel.

I've been pretty happy with my SB gear. The big detractor for me is lack of component availability (wings, fuselages)

I've had nothing but success with my SB foil and multiple wings and fuses. Can't say that about other brands I have used, pretty much broke everything until I got my SB.

I would take the ill-fitting part back to the dealer, SB is good about warranty.

Yes unfortunately in my experience the dimensions of the fuselages are changing, and perhaps the quality control isn't as good as it was, as the anodising seems to be much thinner.

I recently upgraded to an iqfoil 95cm mast from the standard 95cm carbon.
While I could bolt the new mast into my 2x 95+ fuselages , they didn't really fit that well.
I felt there was a gap between the base of the slot, and the bottom of the foil mast.

I managed to get a new 95+ off a local Iqfoil racer. This one had Iqfoil stamped into the slot where the mast fits as well as the official 3d barcode, as the others had.
I found it be completely different, the mast fits in deeper and is more secure. Also, on the water I found that I had to move from a -1 shim to -1.5 shim with the same equipment and rig settings to get the same foot pressure.
Placing the new against the old there's a massive difference in front wing angle.
If I place my 4 x 95+ fuselages together each of them has a difference in front wing angle.
In conversation with the iqfoil racers, they measure the difference between the front and rear wing angles for each fuselage, as they can differ as well, as the plastic shims.

Exactly my point, I thought I was just unlucky. I actually sent back a 900 FW as it didn't fit the 115 Fuse plus (not even close) A great dealer (shop) then got 2 more 900s in to see which one fits best, both really quite different which only made me more nervous. I have committed myself to Starboard (lots of kit) but do wonder in this precise sport if other manufactures (Phantom or the like) are more accurate.
I do genuinely love my foiling and learning a new sport in your mid 50s is great. Any how 28kts here I come!!!!!

I was talking to a few of the top IQFoilers here (great, friendly guys), and they were telling me similar thing about differences due to tolerances in different wings and fuses and shims being really sensitive as well to similar tolerances. I know that the right mast/fuse connection shim needs to be properly sized. I forgot about it. I have two as I got a second with the 105+ and that second one is loose, so I just use the original one that has a tight fit.

The top racers can tell the differences between his different masts and sails, that are due to tolerances. Each one takes a slightly different downhaul (and other) setting, which he will tweak on the water with adjustable downhaul. For the foil setup, sounds like they try to add as much lift in shims as possible until the wind is in the mid teens. They probably have their selection of gear as well to grab the ones that they know are best performers on one end of the tolerances. The top guys look to have very well taken care of foils that look pretty much brand new and they go through a cleaning ritual before races. I am admittedly quite a bit more careless.

Each manufacturer has tolerances to deal with, but it would be interesting to see how other top performing foil brands compare. It's just there are a LOT more starboard foils out there thanks to the IQFoil class. I will say for certain though, that in my case, my equipment is not the limiting factor.
