Last Sunday I was out windsurfing when I spotted some action well upwind of myself at the new Artemis Racing base. I made my way up and there was a female who is a girlfriend of one of the sailors windsurfing, but also some kiteboarders out also.

The spot is great for flat water and they have trimmed the edges of the area making the wind coming off the land less turbulent which is great!

There was a fellow with a kite formula board so I chased him down with both of us on a beam reach. I felt like it was straight forward to do so, but not sure of his experience level and setup on that gear.

Later on a fellow (might have been same guy) came out with a kitefoil and he was a good sport looking to play some. I waited up for him and then we had a good run on a close reach. I think he was using an 11m kite, myself on a 7.2m sail. It was very close to be honest, I wasn't fully powered, but when the puffs came I could gradually reel him in, but he also looked to be not so comfortable at that point of sail.

I noticed maybe from wind decrease I lost a slight bit of angle, but he came up and was able to lock into a position and truck upwind. Next time if he is out will try and get him to try various points of sail to see how the board and kitefoil compare. I noticed in the choppy water he looked less comfortable, keeping the board deeper in the water.

Nice sailing. Doesnt look like much wind for a 7.2. What is your board, fin and weight? What kind of speeds and angles?

Girl is jannicke of norway. She sailed with me and jessica crisp up to london 2012 in sydney harbour when she live here. She is a very awesome sailor.

Hey cool, how did you figure that out!!! We stopped to chat for a bit, she was fast! She said her name, but even reviewing the GoPro tape I could not make quite what she said!

Deceptive, was windy, though for sure could have handled more and got better speeds! I probably should have rigged the 7.8m sail, but when I went out was stronger.

I weigh 162lbs and the board is a classic Z-26 (26cm wide) 120l course slalom board. 1999 Gen I think?

I tried a 38cm Tectonics fin for a change rather than the 42cm fin I usually use and it worked really well! I have a new 36cm Tectonics which should be interesting to test out.

My best speeds were 28 knots, going off the wind, but never felt powered up enough to get more.

In the bit where I'm jamming with the foil kiter, the tracks look to be about 23-24 knots on a close reach, when he goes upwind of me the wind dropped slightly and I have to bear away. I noticed once he headed upwind he looked more comfortable as he could lock in. My brother kite foils and says going on reaches in choppy water is pretty challenging, upwind is way nicer!

ha ha small world it is! She was very friendly to chat was a nice surprise to have company on the water! I'm like the last slalom sailor on island! :(

Yeah she must have swapped out with her other half as strong fellow was on the kit later on. I was heading back home so didn't get to chat to him.
