A couple of 25 knot (peak speed) runs - first proper winter westerly
Flattened in a gust recorded at 42 knots

The wingers have the advantage of more easily easing the pressure in the big gusts.
But we're so much better downwind

Simmer 2.8m
550cm2 front and 200cm2 rear

920, 720, 550 cm2

NIce one JJ! That looked like a fun one. Normally I hate wind noise in a video but you change course enough that it was cool to hear the wind noise chill and then hear the foil hum as you tore off downwind. You are motivating me to get my nuking kit in order, I still need a tiny sail before our winter sets in hear in the norther hemi. For the most part we are still chasing tropical swell but just had a cold front reach us and blow NE for days.

Interesting different stances for each point of sail:
- Windward: hooked in with windward rear footstrap
- High speed reach: unhooked, poo stance and leeward rear footstrap (would you go faster in the windward footstrap?)
- Wave riding: unhooked and centre rear foot position

Which board do you prefer in those conditions, the 114 or the modified 90?

Cheers

I kept the wind noise as I thought the difference in sound up and downwind was cool.

My stance is probably a bit odd at times because I'm compensating for the loss of foot pressure by using half-straps.
You might be able to lock in more with conventional straps and not need such rubbery legs

When overpowered or chasing speed on a broad reach I have better control using the rear leeward strap (so faster).
Sometimes find it also an advantage upwind in big swells.
Seems to settle the foil down somehow.

Downwind and waves I always use the leeward rear.

Big advantage of half-strap rears is I can move my foot around more than I could with conventional straps.

I prefer the M90 but I tend to use the W114 in winter as it's a little more reliable in gusty winds to get up to speed to use smaller foils.
