Thanks. It was intersting cause me on my moses 799 wing was faster than my buddy on his slingshot hoverglide timecode, but he could point higher. Early on we were crossing at about the same point. But eventually my gybing consistency I made it up there first.

That's impressive. I've done some 2mile crossings on fin and foil BUT they were basically single tack reaches with a jibe at the halfway point to sail back. Not a steady upwind jibefest like that, huge difference. And on boards with substantially more volume than that one.

Cheers. The foil is surprizing good for touring. The only thing that competes is a long board, but not sure how long it would take me to reach alcatraz beating upwind on a longboard?

Good question, sounds like a challenge

Wonder how it would be underpowered with daggerboard vs. powered up with the board up. My Link shoots upwind better than my shortboard when fully or overpowered, but the angles just still aren't as good as the foils.

Which way was the current moving and how strong was it? Where I sail we live and die by the current and with ours are at around 3 knots they are about half of what SF bay can dish out.
It is hard to compare different foils vmg because rider skill and input is a huge factor.

I think when I left it was just at the end of our ebb, so not too bad, although you do get some weird eddies up by angel island and alcatraz. It had probably started flooding by the time I headed home.

Great video work on the trip. Very cool to be foilng up near the the Sailgp races in SF. The ability to "travel" upwind has been huge feature for me. It would take me twice as many tacks/jibes on my fin board. I raced Division 2 boards in the 80's with displcement hulls and long daggerboards (Crit 650). They do tight upwind angles in light winds, but downwind in hi wind was a crash fest
