Hi, I'm considering a Slingshot Wizard 114L after having looked at the JP Freefoil 105L, Goya Airbolt 105L and Tabou Magic Carpet 110. The main reason for the Slingshot is length, as unlike the other boards on my list, this one will actually fit in the back of my truck with the lid closed.

Anyway, I see their recommendation for sail size if not very big. I think it's 5.2 at the most. However, I have seen photos and posts of people running bigger sails.

My concern is that I often have winds of only 10-15 knots. At 80kg, 10-15 knots, lots of experience windsurfing for years, but new to foils, and a foil around 1500-1800 (Later on 1200-ish), what would you expect I should be using for sail size?

I'm thinking of ordering a 5.2-5.4 for good days (15-20 knots), but I'm wondering if for most of those 10-15 knots days, I need to be on a 6.5 for example, as is that even feasible?

Looks like 7.5m2 is the max sail size. The following is copied from their web site

Ohhhh, I guess I was looking at the wrong model and thus the reason I came up with 5.3.

That said, for my weight of 80kg and 10-15 knots on larger foil wing, what sail size would you recommend. I know that with a fin I need a 7.0 usually, but I can sometimes get planing on a 6.5. I just don't know how it would be with a foil... but I hope a 6.0 would do... Maybe all the way down to 5.7.

Lot of variables, what foil are you going to use if you can plane with a fin on a 6.0 you could easily foil with a 5.3 wave sail or a free ride no cam. 1500-1800 front wing should get you going but you may soon find that to big,on my 114 5.0 is my big sail but I live in a windy place.

eluviis, consider getting a dedicated free-foil sail of 5.7-6.0m for 10-15 knots; lots of grunt, stable and short boom which suits the SS114. I use a NP Free Flight 5.7m on my SS114 for the light winds and wave sails in the stronger winds.

I'm 140LBS. My biggest sail for the 114 is a 5.2 which is Ok up to 15 knots, but I get overpowered quickly above that. The sailworks flyer is very light weight despite being a cammed sail. I have both the 5.2 and 4.5. I use a 3.7 fringe in 20+ knots of wind. A cammed sail is a must in light shifty winds IMO. For reference, a 7.5 fin sail is equivalent to a 4.5 foil in the same wind range for me.

6.5m is fine on the W114
I use Simmer Enduro 6.5m in 10-15, gusts to 20 knots, uphauls ok.
Debatable whether I get up on foil easier than with a 5.9, but gets through longer lulls.

Hi, I want to say it's because I'm pretty efficient on fin. I've always flown smaller sails and kites than most others on the water, yet plane just as well. This is good to know, thanks.

The reason for the larger wings is because this foil I actually bought for winging. It has a med size fuse at 60cm. My plan would be to get a 70cm fuse for it for windsurf, and a smaller wing (or two) as well. Currently, I only have the 1850 Armstrong front. I hope to get the 1550 V2 soon as my all around for winging, and then something like a 1250 or so.

I've actually never sailed a cammed sail... ever. I should try it. Reason being, I come from sailing in windy locations (Puerto Rico and Maui) and the biggest sail I've ever owned is a 6.5 (and that's now). For the longest time, a 5.7 was my go to sail.

If at your weight a 7.5 equals a 4.5 on foil. I would say that for me at 175lbs, then a 7.5 may be like a 5.5 on foil, and a 6.5 maybe like 4.7 on foil. Give or take. I'm leaning towards buying a Goya Cypher around 5.5.

Ahhhhh, no wonder. I wasn't crazy then. I remember seeing "5.2 max" somewhere. I'm happy to try a 6.0 and a 6.5 on it because I already have them. But I think I'm going to buy a dedicated 5.5 for it. Leaning towards Goya Cypher or Fringe, but also looking at some Ezzys in that size range.

Bid D which one do you prefer pti 730 or ptm 926 ? Just wondering which first wing to get for Jericho 10 knot conditions if I get the Phantasm set?

The PFI730 has a higher top speed I've been told and I think it it likely the best all round wing, Greg Glazier uses it exclusively. I've only used the PTM926 a couple of times and it excels in light and holey wind, if you can make a foiling jibe it will stay on the foil even in almost no wind. In light wind I try to jibe in the gusts with the PFI730 to stay on foil.

Anything above 15 knots the PFI 730 is great, I've used it up to 30+knots and it is stable and controllable with the right size sail. I guess it depends if you are primarily chasing light marginal winds like Jericho is sometimes or if you expect to use it in higher winds as well.

As to sails, yes,. Goya Cypher is on my shortlist. I want a 5.4 and then a larger one... maybe 5.9 as you recommend.

As far as foil, I already have an Armstrong and paid and arm and a leg for it, so I intend to use that. haha. THAT SAID... I would still need a longer fuse and smaller front wing... and given those two would cost about $1400, it may be feasible to just but a whole other foil for windfoiling and keep the Armstrong for winging.I've boiled down my board choice to the Wizard 114L and the Tabou Magic Carpet 110. I'm really torn between the two right now. I like the look of the Magic Carpet and I like that the deck pad extends all the way to the mast base. I also kind of believe the Tabou may possibly be better made, even though I can only get the MTE version because there are no Team edition boards in the states as far as I can tell. The Slingshot on the other hand is lighter and I like that it has that back center strap position. Both boards have footstrap inserts for wind and wing. I think the Sling shot may be earlier up on foil due to the parallel rail. Essentially, it's like a longer board with the back chopped off.

Those sail sizes towards the end there are TINY. I have a Cypher 5.4 (which I hope to use soon enough). I wonder how low I would be able to go with that.
