As I have gotten better at using smaller sails and wings for foiling, I had to go from my trusty Aerotech Freespeed line (stops at 5.0) to a 4.5 Aerotech Phantom sail (crossover wave sail). And I just wanted to point out an important difference in rigging the two different lines. The Phantom takes a lot more outhaul tension than the Freespeed sails. So initially when I rigged the 4.5 Phantom like I would a Freespeed, there were wrinkles between the 1-3 battens and the sail moaned in gusts 25+ knots (lower clew grommet) or moaned in low wind (upper clew grommet), and it just did not feel right though it worked, but I did not feel comfortable hooking in. Talked with Curtis at Sandy Point Progressive Sports and he said it will take more outhaul tension than I am used to, so I really pulled hard on the outhaul and the wrinkle between the 2-3 battens went away, so did the moaning, and now I hook in and it feels really good! The Phantom powers on/off very quickly compared to the Freespeed sails, and that helps a lot in gusty conditions.

So I used to take my Aerotech Freespeed 5.8 from around 15 up to 23 knots or so, higher than 23 and it got too overpowered to use, but after my Camp with Andy Brandt I take the Freespeed 5.8 up to 12-13 knots max and then switch over to the Phantom 4.5. Was out yesterday in 12-17 knots, initially rigged the 5.8 but then derigged and used the 4.5, it was so easy to manage, made it fun, and I am not sore anywhere the next day and that is a big plus. Hooked in, leaned over, and headed up wind for fast in control runs with my AFS W95 foil and F770 wing on a Goya Bolt 135, with no worrying that I was going to get blown out of the water by a gust. And the harness line is now my front arm thanks to Andy, so just needed to use back arm to adjust sail. I was used to foiling overpowered pretty much all the time and that takes a lot more physical work, more wear and tear on my body, and the equipment.

I've been surprised at how small one can rig to foil in high winds.
For years riding on the fin I thought 4.5 was a small sail. Then I realized it's quite a big sail for windfoiling.
My favorite sail is now a 3.3 Severne S-1 and it's a game changer - such a nice rig for 18+Kn.
I've enjoyed my kids 3.0 XS-1 in 20Kn too. Imagine a 300 mast & 140 boom
I don't find much need for my 4.5 now as I often step down from a 5.0 Gator to the 3.3 as the wind fills in.

Great video and sound track, thanks! and also for the info., you are running a bigger wing than me but weigh more, so maybe they cancel out? Problem for me is with 20-25+ knots the waves are 2-3 feet and a bigger sail helps me get up quickly., but only been out two times in those conditions with my 4.5 Phantom and S670 cm2 wing and I now know the 4.5 was rigged with too little outhaul, will have it rigged right next time and be better able to judge if it is too much sail for that wind range and wing size. Though I never felt even close to foiling out with the S670 wing in 20-25+, was easy to control flight height through the gusts and wave troughs that I had to drop into to avoid hitting the larger waves.
