I got my first ride on it yesterday.

In short, it is as advertised and I feel like I have made a good gear purchase decision.

Fit and finish are stellar.

I could push harder upwind not having to ease the sail as often when on the peak of a wave and noticed better VMG. Basically I can transfer more sail power into the foil without losing grip, even without heeling the board over to windward.

I could turn harder carving on swell. The increased control inspires confidence to reach for more.

Because of all the control I got cocky. I kicked out of a swell and sent it into a DW 360 thinking I was Simon or something. I aired a wing tip out and crashed hard in a way that had my leg hit the foil mast. It hurt but I did not bleed. I have to carry my gear a long way from the car to the water and I carry the board/foil with the foil mast resting on my shoulder trailing edge up. Often when carring the gear this wau I hold the trailing edge of the mast and the rubber edges are the main reason I wanted this gear. I want this on the wings next, especially the stab.

I am pretty thrifty and given the cost I had some doubts going in. I reached out to the owner/designer Kyle and he responded to every one of my concerns quickly and personally. He assured me if I had issues he would take care of me. I explained to him that given my size and appetite for lifty wings I have broken a lot of stuff, he said he was glad to have another "data point" that is out in the corner. His level of customer service sealed the deal for me.

Of course I have new toy joy so take this with a grain of salt. But those of you that recognize my posts will remember that I am not afraid to talk about my mistakes or problems. Time will tell and I will keep ya in the loop.

Is it the foil mast you are talking about? You seem pretty entusiastic, does it have rubber covered edges? do they last? well in reality there are other aspects to consider before lasting, I would be concerned about the point of transition between rubber and carbon is that smooth enough to be performant? are they able to make a trailing edge sharp enough? From what you report it seems the answer to both is yes...

Yes, I am talking about the mast. Cedrus has been around for many years now and the products have stood the test of time with good reviews from many respected foilers. The transition from the carbon to the rubber edges is perfectly smooth and the trailing edge is thin. The rubber can be replaced if needed. The other main advantage that should be noted is that the mast is compatible with nearly every brand of wings. There is a full range of adapters at the fuselage connection. The adapters are stiffer and stronger than the fuselage attachments and they are inexpensive too so you can try out different lower set ups. Here is a link to the website if you want to learn more.

We launched the first hollow carbon mast with non-structural (rubber) leading and trailing edges in 2017. There are many benefits to the design, from weight to cost to safety and repairability. The transition to the carbon structural box is imperceptible to the human eye and touch. Part of our QC is simply closing our eyes and running our fingers along the chord length. If we feel a transition, we sand more. The transitions on our new Evolution masts are buried under 2 coats of epoxy and a topcoat of UV cure Zero-VOC surfactant. The trailing edge is sharp enough to meet performance requirements but not so sharp that it's fragile or dangerous. Contrary to popular belief, sharp trailing edges do not increase performance.

I've seen a couple of Cedrus masts around here (with wingers) - looks like an awesome product
