I think the original Naish wing was about 1250...that I bought off you and started my windfoil career

awesome! it's fun to compare from the beginning till present time! We had a great group in Dallas that would all buy different foils and we got to test a ton of different foil and board set ups.

Still remember that thrill getting up and flying on the NP pinky (after a disaster on the Horue foil) then getting the NP/F4 and then the 2018 Naish the same you had JJ....we couldn't get foiling though on a 4.7 in 10 knots though.....but that would come many 100's of hours of foiling later.

I was also proud of my tuttle box RRD slalom board that turned into custom twin track and new custom "off set" foot strap positions....

The first few months, but didn't have a proper board and didn't know how to balance the rig, then I went to the longer fuse and a foil board and I was able to be a lot more stable. I would like to try it again now that I know what I'm doing, but I sold it. I am really happy to have started foiling, love it and do almost nothing else.

Things have improved massively since then.

This is the earliest pic I have of me foiling in Mar 2018. This was within the first week. The still picture certainly does not tell the full story.
Looking back, I made it hard for myself.

May 2015 is when I got the foil, but it took a little while to get setup. :))))

MFC from 2017, still ripping and good as new. Pictured with medium and most used wing ~670cm2, also came with ~970cm2 and a tiny ~450cm2, and 2 tail wings. They got it right first time.

It does look pretty nice, esp for 2017

Feb 17. Used Horue GP just arrived. Ordering an XLW wing (1000ish) for it was a worth it. It flew on my 'everything is too far forward' Starboard Freeformula much better with two washers under the front stab screw. But we were so preoccupied with a 'flat stab is faster' thing that it took way too long to do that.

April of 2017-After 20 years away from windsurfing I got a used and user friendly fin set up to see if my dream of windfoiling was even a possibility for me physically. My first sail I was exhausted before I even made it to the water!

July of 2017- I picked up a used Horue Vini and a custom 120l board from shaper Dwight Fisher. He was well into Wing at that point and gave me a screaming deal on the packedge. Looking back I can't think of a harder kit for me to start with!

Late 2018 switched to Mosses. Things got way easier!

2019 I rode my super wide high volume home brew. The float and width gave confidence that I could always get in and this encouraged me to push my limits! It also taught me that you need a wide board for big sails but if you have a wide board you NEED to use bigger sails to get it flying.

For the past two years it's been the Sled and the Mosses 1100. Sail sizes are down two full meters and required wind dropped from 15 to 10 knots! Riding waves and freestyle are the focus now.

Yesterday I picked up a used 80cm Go foil plate mast. I am looking forward to learning what it has to teach.

I almost went with the Horue package with two front wings, was a deal at $1800, but the wings looked odd and figured the largest was too small for light winds, think I was right. So got the AFS Wind95 with F1080 wing, then F770 and S670 wings, S670 wing is so easy to control in gusts with front foot pressure, no worrying about a gust causing a breach. And using a Goya Bolt 135 slalom board, did make some scale drawing on grid paper to make sure foil would balance on the Bolt, it did just barely (did that because of Segler's video posted here). Still happy with kit from 8-9 knots to 25-30 knots. And both foil and board have taken lots of hard hits and are still solid, through I did have to epoxy in new wing insert in fuselage after gust picked up the whole kit and threw it 30 feet down the beach and wrenched the wing inserts partially out of the fuselage, but no other damage to foil or rest of kit. And Aerotech Freespeed and high wind Phantom sails have worked great, and taken lots of body and hook hits with only minor damage that was repaired with Gorilla black and clear tapes.

Been thinking about the new AFS foil and 900 wing, but at 1000 mm wide it would be best on a wide foil board IMO. And Really like the weight of the 7.6 kg Bolt, can pick up whole kit and carry to water if needed, but usually just drag kit with board upside down and nose guard dragging on beach.


Painted wide black stripes white so Florida sun can not cook board, the Rustoleum enamel paint took 7 days to cure, but is holding up great, no evidence of wear (did top coat with clear enamel). Also added deck pads in front of front foot pads, to cover concave ridge running around recessed deck, that along with a 3/4" PCV mast base shim keeps mast from damaging deck, AND the new deck pads are good for tacking and uphauling.

2017: a couple of tries on a JP slalom 135 I modified for a friend and NP alu foil. Never lifted off.

Late 2018: bought a Flikka and Taaroa Noe, did not really go anywhere.

Late 2019: sold the Taaroa and bought a Moses 790, did my best run ever at 100 yards long. Quite out of control and strangely enough immortalized by a friend from the beach. But never followed up with anything better.

2020-2022: maybe a total of eight times out, most recent this last September. Underpowered and slogging, or overpowered and keeping the board down.

In the mean time, on a fin, about 80-100 times/year with an all new Point-7 quiver for B&J and slalom. New boards are a Futura 71, AV Modena 88 and now a Patrik Slalom 122. Having a blast with the Modena 88 and Point-7 ACZ 6.8 below.

I am guessing: FIN FOREVER!
