Be careful, today I stood over the stabilizer with the extension and the aluminum fuselage got a little bend.

It is not very stiff.

I hope my pictures can give you some insights.

I used stainless steel allen flat head bolts.
Remember aluminum and stainless steel have heavy corrosion issues... better use galvanized bolts they will rust protecting the aluminum fuselage and mast.

Hello ADinis.

Low speed flying improved a lot. I tried with a 8.8 no camber sail and a 70 cm wide board and I have to close the sail very much.
I don?t know about lateral leverage forces with this small front wing so, from my point of view go for the isonic as it is a freeride foil.

The foil you have is no longer considered good to learn on, this well documented on seabreeze
Choosing this foil may lead to it taking much longer to master flight
Anyway putting that aside i would suggest for learning on this foil
-the best size sail would be 7.0m
-ideal wind strength 13-15knts
-the bigger board might be better
After you master flight you will be ale to expand your wind range and sail size

Choosing this foil may lead to it taking much longer to master flight
Anyway putting that aside i would suggest for learning on this foil
-the best size sail would be 7.0m

If there's anyone out there who learnt on the pinkie and has anything to add that may help please do so

I learned on the pinkie and had no problems using it but i am a lighter rider (70kgs). I used a max 8m twin cam sail on it and could get going in around 11 knots. The best thing you can do is upgrade the wings to the newer carbon versions that came out with the second version as they fit straight on and have some wing shape to them which helps stability. The only thing is it might be more beneficial to just upgrade to a starboard GTR kit which are a much better foil. It just depends on your budget and how serious you think you might get. Either way its good fun to learn foiling, just hang on to the boom when you crash coz those G10 wings on the pinkie are sharp. Good luck. :)

You could start with a simple tail extension to existing fuse
Others will be able to advise the length of it
It has to be very strong as loads are massive
I would suggest 8-10mm thick flat steel or it will bend
This will make a significant improvement to pitch stability
And won't cost hardly any money to do

The bending is more about the Temper "T" number.
If you buy bar stock in 6061 it will probably be T4 which is soft & will bend.
If you have an oven big enough you can change the temper to T6 by heat treating it.
From memory 185 deg C for 8 hrs will do it.

You could use Stainless Steel but the weight is huge compared to Aluminium.
I do know of one guy that made a steel fuse, actually used Bisalloy, pretty funny really but it works a treat.

Hi Adnis,
the 6061 is fine if you hard anodise it and if you put a plastic separator between the carbon mast and the aluminium ( which is what starboard does). you need to hard anodise is as otherwise you get quite localised corrosion in certain points that just grows at an amazing rate. I tried normal say 20-30 micron thickness anodising (original finish) and the hard anodise which from memory is 80 micron ? and there is a large difference in longevity.

if you don't anodise at all it will corrode rapidly in any area where there is turbulence or any minor imperfections in the surface finish. Since the original post my fuselage been reworked in key areas in front/ rear/ around the mast socket to try and get smoother flow/ less turbulence plus I went with the harder anodised finish and this has significantly improved it.

I've been following your steps and made a 25 cm back extension to my Glide foil (front wing large, back wing large and 81 fuselage) it made a huge difference, specially in upwind. I'm using it on a starboard formula 162. I really feel that I need the front wing more forward, can you sell me a glide kit and send it to Chile?

Well after 3 months flying with the modified neilpryde Pink foil it broke.
At the first screw of the stabilizer a crack apears and I lost it in the middle of the lake. So, the fuselage material is not strong enough to withstand the higher torque due to the extensi?n (25 cms). My idea is to built a New and extended extension and bolt it further close to the mast were the fuselage is thicker.
Of course i will have to get a New stabilizer..

I think the Glide Winds are compatible with your mast since you are already spending on a stab. Probably better bet is just go for a new NP HP Glide. A bigger wing and longer fuse will be much more fun.

after almost 4 months lockdown, i finally tried the pinkie!!

i'm using a starboard isonic 127 with reforced box. The pinkie is "standard", no washer, no "tunnings", no middle wing (small) and a simmer stye back tip 5.7 sail.

With this combination, with 2 sessions (5hours) what can i say? I need the same wind for foiling as for FIN.
Is easy to take the board out of the watter.. just a bit of speed and a kick on rear foot, but is not easy to stay flying more than 5secounds :D theres a lot of things to think at the same time... stay upright.. stay or not on harness... balancing... wow... it's a new process of learn a new sport

Some tips? Once i'm flying i open a bit the sail but losing power...

is better to learn going upwind or downwind?

Learning on a pinkie is very difficult. I tried a pinkie with my 137 slalom board. After 4 sessions and 2 injuries I sold the pinkie and replaced it with a fanatic flow 1500. The ease of use between the two foils was chalk and cheese. I managed hundreds of metres of stable flight on my first session with the flow.

Here you can see what i did. Very ugly but simple and works. Just some square steel tube with some 8 mm nuts welded. Some poliurethane foam, faired and fiberglass. Dimensions were taken from photos of perth's adapters. Be carefull with the tail it's very fragile as there is little aluminium to hold everything. My tail is lost due to this. But a very good improvement.

My welding skills are terrible but it works...no fancy 6061 al or carbon fiber space grade... just a simple piece of steel bougth at any hardware store...
