I am trying to mix together some kit together.
I have a 2018 Naish thrust mast plate which I would like to insert a 2019 and 2020 mast.
I can insert the mast but it is way tight and only moves down about 10mm before it gets stuff. I have tried a rubber mallet but I think I am still another 10mm from getting it into place.
I could grind down the inside of the mast plate or grind the mast, which might give me enough room. If I try all the masts on the 2020 abracadabra system they all fit not snuggly and with a little bit of play. I think that Naish made their masts a little bit thicker and their mast plates a bit wider after 2018. Anyone had this problem and have a better idea?

Got the calipers out it looks like the mast is 1mm wider on the newer models.

My 2019 mast (orange) fits my 2018 base plate (yellow) but the same mast won't fit the 2018 fuselage. They changed mast profile between the 2018 and 2019 masts, it's just luck whether you get a fit or not when mixing these years.

I do aluminum press fit parts at work by heating the "female" part. 1mm is a lot to press fit though. Even if you get the mast inserted, it make may distort the plate and be non planar.
An easy method to heat small parts is to wrap in a wet towel and microwave for ~5 minutes. I use this method removing ceramic bearings from aluminum manifolds. The steam it creates is insanely hot. Wear thick gloves.

Oh, and if you get it all the way in. It may never come out ??

Mine went all the way in with light rubber mallet taping. Screws didn't change seating.
1 week later, all 3 screws removed, no amount of rubber mallet or wood block taping can budge that joint. It's 1 piece.

I don't really want to make it a one piece forever thing. I have been thinking about it some more and I think that die grinding the base plate might be the best option. There is plenty material there and I only have to grind one thing rather than all the masts which are a little thin anyway.

'18 fuze is too tight for '19 mast.
I parked the '18 fuze.
Using my stuck setup, with '18 WS stab, on '19 mast and surf fuze for windsurfing.
Windfoil, I use a '19 Abra 90, '20 WS fuse, 1150, and 310. Or 600 front foil and 210 stab.

I thought all the Naish stuff (except the early fuse/stab where you could get an adapter) was interchangeable across years - at least according to all the published info? Are the issues here a couple of one off production hiccups or the way it's meant to be?

I'm curious because I'm thinking of mixing some bits and pieces across the years myself.

'18 masts are thinner than newer. So newer bases and fuze don't fit the '18 masts.
All companies evolve, change things 'for the better".
Some use bigger screws. Some change the patterns. Some change the mounting profiles.
Others add new parts, phazing out the old by emphasizing how "improved" the new are.
Like cars, motorcycles, bikes.....compatibility is short term.
Improvement requires changes.

Like I said in my first post, it's just the 2018 gear that may be slightly different than the 2019 and later. And it isn't a hard rule, my 2019 mast fits my 2018 base plate perfectly, tight but removable. Though others have found difficultly, could just be the thickness of the anodising.

Best option is to try fit whatever you plan to mix and match first before buying.

Yeah agreed but part of their advertising campaign is that all this stuff is interchangeable. And you should see the movement of the abracadabra system with a mast from the same year. I like the Naish stuff and I know I am bagging on them, but they should not make statements about interchangeable parts if it is not.

They were interchangeable. All '18 fits all '18 parts. Even inverted stabs fit, or airplane stabs.

Aloha Henry, sorry for the delayed reply.

Question #2: Our systems are interchangeable when it comes to "foil to fuselage" connection and "mast to fuselage connection"
As the actual mast shapes have changed over the years the mast base plates are not interchangeable between the older mast designs and newer mast designs. On the newer masts it is also not possible to take the base plate off anymore.

Naish is totally interchangeable....by year.

2018 base plate now fits a 2020 mast. Used a die grinder and slower grinded the inside of the base plate. The wall thickness is the same as the 2020 abracadabra's thickness, if not a little thicker. Thanks everyone for your input , much appreciated. Now onto the next problem the 2020 front wing does not quite fit the fuselage of the 2018. Might buy a new fuselage.

Strange....my 2020 mostly charcoal 1150 fits my '18 windfoil fuze.
Conversely, my '18 1220 front foil fits '18, '19, and '20 fuzes. It's my most stable wing, although very heavy. The 1150 weighs less than half ny 1220.
What didn't, but might if grounded or sanded, is '18 fuzw with '19 or '20 masts.

sorry I did not get back to you sooner, I was waiting on a 2020 fuselage to confirm.
My 2017 fuselage with a 2020 wing will not fit together. The fuselage is just a little bit too large and the holes will not line up.
A 2020 fuselage will fit a 2017 Malolo foil (thought it was 2018 but it's 2017) which is what I've got. It fits and there is a little bit of play.
I hope that clears things up.

Hmm, I can only by go by what I have.
My '18 yellow, very heavy 1220 WS front foil fits my 79 cm, 2020 fuze perfectly and is my most stable and friendly combo. It fits '19 kite fuselage and '18 WS fuze.
I have NOT tried fitting my '20 1150 front wing [all charcoal black with small yellow stripes] onto either of my 64 fuzes because I like stability at my learning stages.
My '20 79 fuze goes great with '20 1150 and also with '19 600 front wings. But most stable with '18 1220.
