Around 12-18 knots, pretty spotty with some big lulls. I didn't even know my son had shown up flying the drone. He shows up at my house sometimes to get some practice in a large area (over land). Didn't think He was ready to fly over water though. I heard a weird noise and looked up. When I saw it, I stayed close to shore not knowing what range he had with the drone. He never fell in the drink, so it all worked out.
What was the drone used for your nice video? I had flown my DJI mini 2 at 20-22 mph wind and made many videos of our buddies while windfoiling or wingfoiling. It was difficult to operate but with a dronemask, it was much better to capture good videos. The drone tracking requires the operator to carry the controller which is not practical and requiring someone skilled to follow you while foiling. There are other drones that could follow a beacon when you carry on yourself. and tracking is possible. Here is a link for one of our videos I made. Earlier flights were too close but this was higher. I still need to practice
Nice speed. I'll have to ask my son. All I know is its a 5" (freestyle) drone with a POV camera and a gopro camera for video. He pilots with a POV headset from land. The drone is insanely fast so 35 knot winds would be no problem. He claims the 5" freestyle drone is more for stuny flying and not well suitedfor video. He just ordered a 7" drone more suited for stable video. He's very tech savy and integrates his own control(s) from various Mfrs (flight control, pov,gps, etc). I think he's in around $800 not including the gopro. Seems like theres a lot of skill involved in flying to keep the camera frame on the subject while controlling yaw/direction.
Those "follow me" drones look pretty cool though.
