The car was packed up Saturday night ready for an early Sunday morning drive down to FT. Pierce. Its a very busy area for fishing and tourists and to get a good parking space you better be there early.

Kiters found this place decades ago, and now wingers having definitely blown it up, big time.

Late morning winds were direct North around 18mph which meant you can launch from a nice protected beach and pump out past the jetty into big moving swells (the gopro doesn't do it justice). To be able to foil on butter smooth water right into the action zone is dream like.

It's a unique breaking wave! the face jacks up in a deep-water channel with a small white water crumble lip and then gradually fades out but its not a normal breaking wave and so if you mess up its generally OK, however its still intimidating especially if you foil into the next section into super confused sea state.

The wind was brisk but I had to change out of the full length wetsuit because my adrenaline was pumping so high and I started to get cramping, mouth was dry and couldn't swallow and went in to change into a shorty....That was a first!

BTW it didn't matter if my harness lines were 28" or 38" I didn't spend much time in them,

Dean, How fun is it to gybe on the wave face? Nothing like droping in at the same time as the sail flip right?! The waves show up well in this footage they must have been juicy!

I will start experimenting with smaller front wings, like you say dropping into a good steep wave face is high on the pucker factor scale and to go bigger waves I need less front foot pressure, my foil was as far back in the track as it will go!

Bring it on, cannot get enough of that....so awesome!

The waves look big on the gopro must have been massive in person
Definitely try the smaller wings Dean, think you would be stoked on the smaller moses wings like the older moses 720 or new Balz 699 that is coming out...or phantasm stuff, lots of options!

Super jealous of the warm dreamy conditions.

I'll bet when those wingers ride Nazareth, they're on 500 sq cm front foils.
I know the average sized tow board is 6' long, 16" wide, multi fin and 20+ lbs. They need control at 30 knot boatspeeds.

Epic vid Dean - looks like we'll be coming over to Florida next year

Ocean foiling is the best - I bet there was serious energy in these swells;

JJ...Thought you and Simon would be shredding in that froth.. plenty to do in Florida you guys are welcome anytime!

The nicest compliment I got was from a winger who I was chatting to on the shore and said that one of the waves was huge that I gybed on and wished he could've taken a photo it was that epic he said

@Simon, yes I've had some great sessions over the years but like you said when the conditions line up like that, its a whole different dimension

@Connor I may have to try a Balz wing it maybe a while before the smaller phantasm wings get to the U.S.?

I loved that you described this.
In a new spot when the waves are cranking the adrenalin can rob you of your normal skills - heart pumping, arms tight, jelly legs. I know the feeling. It always takes me at least 20mims in that sort of situation to calm down and get into a normal rhythm.

Great effort!

Hi Dean,

How was the air temperature on Sunday? 200 miles further north we had the same wind, but it was still 57F cold. Cold for Florida. My 2mm shorty doesn't cut it at that temperature. The locals were wearing drysuits. (Yes, drysuits in Florida, go figure.)

Temps are back to normal today. I am looking at Scenic View for the early easterly.

Hi Rick

Yes Sunday we woke up to 48 degF, by the time we drove south it was around 60 degF and by lunch around 68 degF I changed down to my 2mm as I was cramping up big time in my full length wetsuit.

I have seen wingers at Kelly Park with 5/4 wetsuit, boots and neoprene hat in 72...

Exactly what happened!

Some of those swells had the old heart pumping big time, my forearms starting cramping and I felt really thirsty all of a sudden, I could taste the adrenaline.

Luckily I had my CSO (chief support officer = the wife) and had plenty of cool refreshments for a quick stop, she knew something was up as I normally sail much longer before I come in for a break
